I have a 99 gtx ltd and for some reason I am taking on water? This is every time I take the ski out on the water. Ive heard there are bilge pumps on these machines. How do I check to see if mine is working or if a line is clogged? Please help!

They have auto bailers. It works on suction. You should see 2 black boxes in the back bottom of the hull near the waterbox and battery

1687 how do i know if they are working properly? how do i test them out? also how do i check for exhaust leaks with it out of the water?

Some skis do have bulge pumps, many do not.

The vacuum style is an OEM item. You wan to make sure they are not plugged. If not, then they should be working.

That said, I get either no water or so little that it wouldn't fill up a cup.

You want to run it without the seat and try to find the incoming source.

Mine is coming in through the bilge, which is the black box near the bottom of the hull connetted to a hose that when i found it, I ran it out the top of the rear seat and out the back of the ski, the water coming out was very hot. This was my temp fix as I was out on the water...still cant seem to figure it out, might be clogged lines somewhere.

If it is hot water coming out then it is NOT the bilge. It is your exhaust line. That will fill and flood your ski if you don't reconnect it properly.

Just to make sure I have this right, I need to hook the water hose to the back of the ski and crank the ski, THEN TURN WATER ON? I need to know the sequence. I read somewhere that this is important bc of the raves? Is this info correct>?

That is correct.....motor on, then water on, water off then motor off. It's not because of the Raves, it's b/c of water getting into the motor because of no pressure of blowing it out the exhaust

Here is the scoop (no pun intended) on the bilge pumps. My 99 GSX came from the factory with a Rule 500 pump.
To clean and check it ....move or remove some hoses out of the way and unclip the pump from the black base that's attached to the floor.
It's a PITA to get to.
Clean all the gunk from it. If you have some jumper wires you can hook it to the battery to make sure it runs. The discharge line from the pump to outside the hull (by the pump on the left side) must be hung high in the hull otherwise water can come into your hull there.

To clean the balers unclip them and remove the little black box and clean them......they very easily get clogged up with junk and oil.
These work off "suction" from the jet pump.....they only really suck water out at a faster speed......nothing at idle.

Make sure all lines of the Rule pump and balers lines are clear.

KEY OFF, push start. this will power your bilge pump for 33 seconds without the hassle of 'jumping' it.

you can fill the ski with 2-3" of water on land, and test it.

If you put water into the hull and run it on the trailer/hose, will the bailers removed the water, or do they work only when the motor is running at a certain RPM? Basically, can we test those wile running on a hose?

No they will not work on a hose. They only work when water is flowing up through the pump. It works on a suction similar to a syphon out the back of the ski.

The balers won't work on the hose but the Rule 500 bilge pump will, either with the 33 second test or with the motor running.

OK, so this has been the MOST helpful informative thread to me yet! I tried no key, push start button with the seats off, and i hear NO bilge pump noise.. I hear nothing. That is probably one of the problems. I know I need to clean the balers bc the water that comes out of the hull is usually thick, nasty water. Guess tomorrow when I have some light, I will try to find the bilge and see what is going on. Thanks guys!!

ok after removing the balers, they didnt seem too bad. one thing i did notice though is i have a small amount of oil in the bottom of the ski. i never take my seat off to put oil in either. so the mystery is where the oil might be coming from!!!!!! any ideas fellas?

for some reason i cant upload pics??? i have only had to put oil in once so far. but it held the whole gallon. also my rave adjustment caps are screwed all the way in. they are at least 1/4" lip.. i was reading what the adjustments meant, cant recall what thread they are on now

nice tip, I never knew that before tonight.

I guess he must have an aftermarket install on the pump.

Many times you can tap on a bilge pump once irbid energized with the head of a heft screwdriver and it will start to work.
