hi as a new member not sure if i am on the right forum , also not sure if i am allowed to talk about subject of bad mechanics and seadoo repairers and generally warn others , i am not the only one who has had a bad deal from these people maybe some one can advise me ,
ps . got my ski back not working, and now at a genuine seadoo dealer in uk

Welcome to the seadoo forum bones. Sorry you had a bad experience. I always recommend that you go to a certified seadoo repair facility. I don't know any " marine repair shops" that can repair seadoo's. It's like bringing your lawn mower to a car dealer to have it fixed, then slam them because the blade didn't get sharpened...There is a place to let people know of a "good dealer" on the seadoo forum, but we don't recommend you slam any repair shop in public form.
If we can help solve your seadoo problem, let us know...we're here to help.

I do my own work precisely because of bad experiences with repair shops in the past.

Just any ol' marine shop is not going to be experienced enough to service your Seadoo. Unless you see a huge queue of Seadoos on their property, it is unlikely they see them enough to do the work well.

If you are pretty "in" with the shop, you could try to bring them diagrams (an excellent benefit of being a premium member on seadooforum.com) and arm yourself with some research about possible problems you have. This assures them you are a serious customer and want to help them do the job well - even the shop doesn't want the boat in there forever.

Authorized Seadoo repair shop is always an option, but I know sometimes these are not located nearby or the queue time is long.

Your best bet is to start RIGHT HERE! Describe the boat and the symptoms you are experiencing and we can help walk through the problem....or at least narrow it down.:)

karl thanks for your reply, as far as slander goes i understand where you are coming from , but these guys advertise on ebay not only for the uk market claiming to rebuild all types of seadoos, servicing etc , website looks fantastic, my ski went to them on the 25th may 08, i got it back two days ago told not to start it as may catch fire. when i did turn it over it sounded awful and would not start. it is now with world wide sports genuine seadoo dealer in brigend south wales, i have also found someone on a forum who had ski delivered back with head bolts snapped and glued back on, it concerns me that repairers treat this with little respect for something that could potentially be very dangerous especially out to sea.i wil keep you informed about the outcome of my re-build i am just hoping that the engine doesn;t have to come back out and be re-built because it wasn't done correctly first time.

regards bones

hi JPX , thanks for your info. just to let you know about my ski, its an 98 xp ltd, purchased for £2200, itook out a loan , so had no money left for magor repairs, i had ski inspected before i purchased cost £40, all seemed ok compression down a litlte 120 same on both cylinders and was told to expect that. i had ski for about 5 weeks probably put 15-20 hours on her then what i would call the rear cylinder small end bearing broke up and ski stopped running. my dad removed engine from ski due to costs this is how we found out what the damage was. the head was quite battered from i can only presume the needle rollers being squashed against it the top of the piston also damaged , it looked as if the conrod was slightly bent, but the crank was still free the other piston was ok, so that is why we decided to go for a complete engine re-build by a company who stated they would remove and collect engine (this i had already removed), within one week return and re-fit and test all for £900. so i borrowed some more money paid a £500 depost waited 6 weeks ended up taking my ski to them and collecting it 4 hour return journey each time, and the ski was still not working, because of the ammount of lies i was told by them i am not sure if the crank was replaced or both pistons done, maybe they just replaced the one damaged piston . do you think the head needed skimming or replacing , sorry this is a essay

yours bones

Bones were here to help out all we can. As JPX said, we can get you on the right track to get it back in the water. If your even a little mechanically inclined we can advise and you do the repair. This is a very active forum with almost 7,000 members...very eager to help out...Do you have a seadoo shop manual? If not here’s an idea for you. You could join as a "premium member". As a premium member you can down load a authentic seadoo manual from the seadoo manual library. In the library is a variety of manuals for almost all years and models. You can view as many as you like on line as a PDF file, or download it and print it for your personal and private use. There are operator manuals and repair manuals for you to do your own repairs on your seadoo. The repair manuals have everything from troubleshooting, repair procedures to winterizing. It contains wire diagrams torque specs and pictures for disassemble and assemble instructions. In the spec sheets it tells everything needed to maintain oil changes, spark plug gaps, carburetor rebuilds and impeller wear ring tolerances. Click on the "Seadoo Manuals" link at the top of the page for more details. If you need any help or get in a jam, we are always here to answer your questions too. Premium members get priority when it comes to getting quick detailed answers.

This service is $10.95usd, per month and can be canceled at any time. I bought a paper back service manual for my 200speedster at a local dealer because the seadoo forum didn't have one for that new a product. Cost me $85.00 usd. So this is a great deal.

What ever way you go we are here to help...:)
