Hey all -

98 Sportster (single engine)

In need of some quick help - some have you might have been following my wear ring shaft impeller carbon seal issues..

Now I am at the lake and ready to test.. and no dess beep. Bower, bilge, lights all good. No love from the key, good thing I test fired from shore.

I have some basic electical toys and a multimeter.. any quick diagnostics (or a bypass) I could try?

Did have it on a 10A charger the last day or so; know the battery is good.

Any help would be appreciated. its been a long expensive summer and I'm close to paddling it out and putting a match to it.

Thanks

Shawn

Maybe not enough power from the battery? The battery might be bad. Gl

Sometimes the beepers just go bad, have you tried to start the boat? The other thing I hope you disconnected the battery when you charged it, a 10amp. charger could have fried the MPEM. Check your fuses.

Checking fuses now. The battery should have been disconnected; at least thats what I remember. Which fuse should I be looking at?
And no - no fire even without the beep. Stone dead.

Well checked the fuses.. all good. Since I have no magnets handy (other suggestion, from dealer..) I have been told to check the contniuity on the post. Which wires am I hunting down?

Thanks
Shawn

Turns out that the only fuse I didnt check is the MPEM or whatever in the rear box. Dealer charged me another 40 bucks. Got it to the lake last night, ran great with the $3000 I poured into the piece all summer. Fired it up today - made it half way across the lake and it died. Starting a new thread on how to burn the POS into the lake.

Its time consuming but you will get it fixed. Good luck.

That's good to know, since I just charged up mine with the battery connected. :ack: While I've still got other problems (see recent post), fortunately the MPEM isn't one of them.

In future I'll remember that...remove battery to charge.

Is the 3 amp setting ok to charge with battery still connected?

Add a battery switch so you can just turn the power flow off to your mpem. It will suck taking the battery out all the time to charge...

2.5 amps seems to be the magic number. Some have use 10 Amps and never had an issue. But in most cases 3 amps and above have found to cause issues.
