As the second of my sears diehard platinum AGM batteries has quit over the winter, I am in need of a replacement. I have had great results with the O'reillys AGM battery in the GTX, but I found a 35% off discount code for Advance which makes the battery only 68.49 plus tax. I seem to recall that someone else on here used these batteries but wanted to see how they hold up.

this is the battery, and the discount code is WD55

that battery looks to be made by east penn same company that makes as deka and duralast gold and Duracell which are agm

I have two of those batteries. Only used them one season so far. I did drain one of them completely trying to start with a tight wear ring, but it recharged fine and worked the rest of the summer.

You may want to try code TRT41 - it's for $40 of $100 online order and then just do store pickup. You can just throw some plugs or whatever on your order to make up the extra $10.

I have used them with no issues.
I think at one time they were the 325 cca then dropped down to 225 this link appears that its back up again.
Bottom line, if I needed a battery I wouldn't hesitate.
make sure if you use the coupon that gives you $25 off your next order that you create an account, then order it, so they give you the 2nd coupon, I made that mistake once and was quite agitated.

I've had 2 from Advance. One only lasted a short time as i think the shop "might" have ran it down. I'm on my second , so far so good.

Those coupons are great if you know exactly what you want without seeing it in person.

@ Seadoobuddy, while doing some research different brands of agm batteries, i stumbled on a writeup on charging agm batteries.
saying that some chargers will not recognize a agm battery that is low in voltage and wont take charge.
reading on, it says that hooking a second known good battery with the low one pos to pos and neg to neg will fool the charger and be able to charge the one that needs it. might be worth a try.

i've also done that same setup with a jump box, and attached my charger to that

Using two in my gsx and xp, great batteries, no issues so far
I've used them to turn over all the project skis and they hold charge well.
they used to have a 12 month warranty but recently switched to 6 month.

interesting idea.... I had that issue with my old tender Jr., and my pop's old big huge charger, both showed that the battery was DOA. I bought an Optimate 4 and it saved it (and a couple others)
I have like 5 older agm's on a shelf right now that I need to figure out what to do with.

Good point but I've never heard of the idea you suggested.
Actually i bought a charger from Harbor "Fright" that has a separate setting for AGM batteries. I think the brand is Schumaker. i think it has 6 V & 12 V setting too. Also has a digital readout gauge to tell you the %age of charge it has left to go before fully charged.

Unfortunately it's in FL and I'm stuck in Michigan ...with my wife in FL :(

I think this is it.....

tell your wife to ship your charger to you lol! i guess a charger without the agm setting cant detect a agm battery if it is low on voltage. i never knew that either till i stumbled upon it while researching.

LOL, I have a Craftsman 2/10/50 amp charger up here. I bought it in the 70s for my first boat & car

I have this battery tenderhttp://www.rvupgradestore.com/Battery-Tender-Waterproof-800-p/55-0151.htm
and have read that I can do that trick. I have about 6 batteries to cars and whatnot that need to stay on tender this winter. Can I hook all pos together and all neg together then connect tender clips to 1 battery and it will maintain all? I am guessing there is a limit to how many i could connect even if it will work. All batteries are good and out of vehicles in dry area.

Bought the same AA battery last May for my RFI and has held up well. Been monitoring the voltage the plus few months before the occasional trickle charge on the Battery Junior and the voltage drop has been minimal. Plan to pick-up a new one for the XP in another month or so. Warranty is only 3 months.

im not sure if you can hook a bunch like that. i bought a battery tender double bay for my 2 rv batteries and does a good job. a few mo ago i junked a 3 year old optima battery i had in my truck cause it wouldn't charge. but didn't know better at the time :( i left my headlights on and the battery died hence is probably why it wouldn't charge on my old charger.

If you have a batteries plus near you I have found that is the best place to get my batteries. I get the AGM batteries for about $100 most of the time with a $10 rebate. Best part is comes with a FULL 2 year no fault warranty. I have bought and used several of them. Love them. Also got the noco genius trickle charger maintainer for about $45. Has several settings including AGM.

I have three of the AGM batteries from autozone. I started buying them when racerxxx showed me the coupons that made them very competitive. I think racer said they were Deka as well, but the guy at the store said they "used to be" , but at any rate they tested perfect on my Amp load meter & I will re-test in the spring. I would have no issues buying more of them.
keeping them charged, but not over charged is the key to longevity.

They appear identical to me..........

Shoot, I bought a West Marine 19ah AGM battery for the first time and I was about $150! I did get it for less than that with some Port Supply account magic but still. I will say that battery (my first AGM) was the strongest cranking battery I've ever heard on the ski.

I will consider this Advance one, and see how it goes!

you probably want at least one of these:

EDIT: SERIOUSLY? WE CAN'T LINK TO AMAZON? WHAT IS THIS NONSENSE?

and another single tender to use, plus the one you already have. use the 4 bank one on the stuff you can cluster in one corner of the shop, and the other two on stuff further away.

ordered online and went to pick the battery up at the store. what a C-F. they couldn't find the right battery on the shelf (online said they had 3 in stock), so then they tried to give me a 16 no L, but i told them that the terminals would be backwards. then they pretty much gave up looking because another customer had walked in.

i kept looking in a few different places and started to walk back to the counter, and on the way found the correct battery on an endcap that they hadn't looked for.

Like 68ragtop showed, it looks like the exact same battery i got from o'reilly's last year when the diehard was DOA at the beginning of the season. hopefully it is as good as the other one.

duralast.jpgautozone has the duralast gold ETX16L agm for 88.99 325 cca 19ah looks just like the one from advance auto all made from east penn like deka. i'm going to buy one in april.

My batteries are holding up fine. The one in my 96 went last summer (got it in 2012).....well, it didn't go but it had been a long while since I started it and the battery was low and I couldn't get it started. I didn't have a charger at the shore so I bought a new one. The one in my HX (2013) is chugging along just fine as well. I'd get another in a heart beat. You have to do the math on if the $40 off a $100 is a good deal or is it better to use the 35%. I think I use the 35% because the price fluctuates all year long on that battery. So try and get it when it's cheap. Some where on here SDB had a post about it and I vaguely remember paying like $62 OTD for a battery.
