Anyone from RI

CT/RI here

Hey that cool i'm all about riding in the ocean.....one thing that has crossed my mind though...maybe i'm crazy but would any of you take a jet ski from westerly to block island.

fuel.....

The thing that worries me isn't the fuel, it is riding 12-18 miles out into the ocean on my jet ski. If anything happens well...it wouldn't be fun. I believe they sell fuel on block island for an ridiculous price. but i think it could be a really fun ride if everything went well.

nice

how long does the ride take you. also how much is the gas on block island. but yeah thats awesome i would definitely wanna take the trip this summer.

I'm in Cranston, nice to see some RI people on here.. anyone know of any good honest shops in the area?

I'm picking up a project ski tomorrow that will definetly need a look over, I have my PWC license as I've owned a bunch of boats and used to rent PWCs but Ive never even opened the hatch of one of these things yet, i'm a do it yourselfer just need to know what to look for, if anyone in RI has a free day and dont mind checking the seadoo out I'd be happy to pay you for your time. -Mike

I'd be down for a ride like that after my ski is in good running order, I used to take my old 23' boat there all the time I have a bunch of friends who work at Fin's resturant/market so they live on the island for the summer.. always a good time.. I've yet to take a jetski to the island but One thing i've learned from taking my boat out there is.. obviously get a compass (or handheld gps), and a handheld vhf radio (dont want to be stuck out there with a useless cellphone lol). and obviously you want your flares and co2 air horn which you would usualy have anyways.

The reason why I say to get a compass, you could leave right from pt. judith on a clear day and perfectly see the island, head out and 10 minutes later your trapped in a blanket of fog.. not good. So a compass is good to have, a good handheld GPS is even better. LOL

There is a guy on Oaklawn Beach ave. in Warwick that is very honest. Where do you guys take your boats. I have only been to Watermans lake on rte. 44 in Pascoag/Smithfield . Any ideas for south Mass, northeast connecticut or other RI waters?

i can usually be found out on Johnson's pond in coventry doing some tubing.. its a pretty good place. A little bit weedy at times but over all pretty good...
The only down side is there is only one way on the pond if you dont know any one with a boat launch, its through a camp ground that makes you cough up 10 bucks just for use of there launch. But in all reality ten bucks isnt bad when im going to blow 60 bucks in gas to go play for the day. With that being said who lives on the pond and wants to let me share there launch with them ! haha

I have a buddy with a small summer house in colwells campground on Johnson pond (about 4 houses up from the house with the big rave water trampolean.) have a dock there where i keep my seadoo and his old school wave runner as well as a small boat. but no private ramp at the house however I know of a few ramps, there's one in the campground itself i've used it without getting charged, may be cause I'm always there but I bet no one would bother you. There's also A steep one on the side of the cheese bridge, the bridge you see everyone jumping off right in the no wake zone.

for any1 who hasn't been there it's nice. Yes there's definetly weeds here and there otherwise very clean and swim safe water. Pond is very big lots of coves and such to explore. great for water sports in the wide middle section there's a huge floating ramp for waterskiers to go up. Lots of boat traffic so be careful also regular police boat patrol so make sure your legit and safety course licensed before going there haha.

Hope to see some of yas out there. Gotta come up with a seadoo forum wave so we know, haha just kidding.

Mike

p.s. There has to be other ramps around the pond it's a big area I'm going to ask my bud if he knows of any he's been on that pond his whole life I'll update if I hear anything usefull

I have a 2007 Seadoo 180 Challenger with a 12" to 18" draft, how are the rocks out there. And when you say lots of boat traffic, what are we talking about? I have small children that I pull around on a tube, will they be ok if they fall off out there?

its not to the point you have to worry when you have some one fall off the tube at all. i cant remember the actual size but i wanna say its a like 200 acres give or take a hundred acres? I have a 98 speedster that drafts about 12 inches thats perfectly fine out there ive never hit bottom or debris. there is one section thats very easy to see that has a rock since it sticks out of the water a couple feet, all around that area is a sizeable sand bar. As long as you have a depth gauge you will be fine though.

yea no problem pulling people on tubes theres lots of room to do that.. youll be more than fine in a challenger theres MANY pontoon party boats and even the occasional good sized 25-26 foot cabin boat here and there which draw a good amount of water so youll be fine ive seen some good sized boats that shouldnt even be in the pond from time to time haha.. lots of mastercraft type ski boats. theres definetly boat traffic but mostly infront of cowells and under the rt. 117 no wake zone but just like he said not enough traffic to make tubing dangerous.. ive seen a couple idiots in a foam pool chair floating around once haha.. its a real nice pond lots to see. if you fish also theres alot of small and a couple good sized coves with great good cover and brush great bass areas as well as some good size pickeral crappie perch you name it. theres a pond website with the pond rules and etc. as well as some good pics a map and history on the pond at johnsonspond.com if we can get a good number of people my buddy his girl. myself and my fiancee would be down to have everyone come dock and hang at the house for some steaks and possibly some beers after were done messing around on the pond. mike
