My two babies are going into winter storage in an old chicken barn. I thought about putting Moth Balls in the hulls. To keep the mice out. When I was younger we had problems with mice building nests in power equipment. Our two lawn tractors and the Farmal cub would have nests built in the engine shrouds. Wires would be chewed here and there. Just a mess some springs. Thought Moth balls, plastic wrap and the canvass covers to keep the little critters out.

Just if you like that strong lingering smell... My dad put some once in a chest and years later, I am still trying to get rid of the smell...

But against mice, it will definitely work IMO...

Maybe a good shrink wrap would be better.

Benji.

I've got them in all of my skis and also steel wool plugging the exhaust outlets. They make the moth balls in packets now you can just toss them in.

Exactly how do they harvest moth balls? Must be some pretty big moths. I hate the smell, smells like an old persons house.

Kidding aside, there's gotta be something better than moth balls, we've got a piece of furniture from my Dad's house, ten years later you can still smell the moth balls.

I don't know how well they work but there are ultrasonic rodent repellents, I've also heard peppermint oil works.

1:1:1 by volume plaster of paris, oatmeal, sugar makes a nice meal that hardens in the beasty gullet and absorbs the stench of decay. A nearby pan or small bowl of water in case they need a drink to activate the active ingredient.

I have to stop and see my buddy an exterminator. He may have stuff not as smelly as moth balls. I hate to have stuff chewed that I don't find till the first time on the water. It's 6 months and counting till I am back on the water!

On another forum someone suggested bar soap will keep them out. Have put bars in cars for a few years now. One in the trunk, engine compartment, and interior. Can't guarantee it works but it doesn't smell or hurt anything. Haven't seen any mice either.

We always moth ball our boats. For the ski I usually use steel wool for the exhaust outlet as well. I usually have never wrapped the ski for winter but I have a massive amount of wrap left over from packaging and shipping a motor on a pallet so I think I will this time around.

Oh god. Mothballs. Nope.. I'm good[emoji13] I remember my grandparents house had them and it was just atrocious !!!

I like the bar of soap idea, I'd completely forgotten about that one! I'm going with this for winter, using Ivory soap bars, have read accounts of Irish Spring original green bars, dryer sheets and Ramick bars from the farm supply. :)
