You have got to be kidding me ! This is disgraceful that our students are going haywire and killing each other. Are any members here from the home town of the shooting? let us know what's going on.

It's multifactorial problem

There so many factors involved. Almost all of these guy that have been doing these shootings are disconnected from "mainstream" society. (ie loners usually with mental disorders.) Unfortunately our society has moved away from the family towards a group of individuals living under the same roof. An example is family dinner, we strive to make sure everyone is home for dinner at the same table so we can have some quality time with the children. Many of my friends do not do that. Their kids stay in their rooms or in the basement playing video games, which tend to be on violent side, and disconnect from the family.

I am not blaming anyone or anything, like I said, it is multifactorial. All we can really do is to show our children we love them and help them as best as we can.

Dinner time

We use to have dinner together to, but in such a fast paced society that we have created for ourselves, we need 28 hours in a day. Fast food has just about taken over. My ma still cooks from scratch.....I could ask my wife to put a batch of steamers on and she'd look at me like I was on drugs! The younger generation doesnt even now how to cook, without a microwave!

In my family growing up my mom was a stay at home mom. In my family now my wife and myself run our business. At 3:00 she leaves to pick up our daughter and go home to make dinner for the family every nite. My son is in high school and drives himself and knows that family time is at dinner time. Of course we all have puters and my kids have the usual ps2..ps3...cheerleading, school band, but we still go boating and to the movies when we can together, we make the time.

When I went to my last college in IL i would party at NIU every weekend and even last year. I cant believe that would happen there were so many police every time i was there. I think kids do this to make them selfs feel good and to be remembered. Today all teenangers are alike everyones shines in their own way more then every and can show it with the internet facebook, myspace and so on. But kids find it hard to get on TV now or newspapars. When i was younger if you were an A studeny on honor roll you made the town news paper and got reconistion. Today who cares and with this fast paces world at home its easy to become unnotice by parents. I have a very good realtionship with my family i talk to them every day even though i am 500 miles away. Most kids today are lucky to talk to one parent every couple of days if that. I think it kids striving for atention with anger and frustion with life that pushes them to this extrem. Its the wrong way and its sad to see people do this to other. But i think the people are becoming to indepent and this causes a lonelness which cause actions like this.

Its a crazy world you lot live in. What with all your guns and s**T.

Are the gun Laws there to keep people outa your country.........

And as a previous post said. ..........It gets the idiots in the news papers and TV.:agree:

If you outlaw guns...than only outlaws will have guns. It's a vicious circle with all the violence on TV, movies and video games today. A little common sense goes a long way in teaching and loving our kids so they know the difference between reality and the fantasy world.

I lived in Kennesaw,GA in the 80's when they required every head of house to own a gun. I also had to complete a training course on when you could and could not use it. (as well as range time.) Crime dropped 40%. You never hear about that statistic on the news as they have their own agenda.

Both the VT and NIU shootings involved people who had mental issues. I go back to the whole idea of making sure you children know right from wrong and you love them.

An interesting point is the news stated both shooters purchased guns from the same dealer. (I am not sure if that is true though.) I used to travel to Canada alot and they always thought everyone was shooting on every street corner. It doesn't matter if guns are banned or not, people will find ways to kill each other. :(

Heck, here in Florida all you need is a Florida drivers license and a waiting period( 6 days I think)from the gun shop and here you go have a nice day! y'all want ammo with your gun? Besides, people kill people...not any particular weapon.
