anitfreeze question

'97 GSX 787 manual says to use only ethylene glycol antifreeze for aluminum engines. Is there a reason not to use the nontoxic propylene glycol. It says on the bottle it can be used in aluminum engines. I wasn't sure if there have just been advances in propylene glycol and the manual is now outdated or if there is a real reason i MUST use ethylene glycol.

I asked my local SD dealer and they stated they use the nontoxic pink RV antifreeze. So thats what I used.

Most any anti freeze will work if is says it's good for aluminum blocks...

the RV stuff I bought says it has Corrosion Inhibitor but doesn't say anything about aluminum. says it is safe on copper, brass and all plastic except acetate. was hoping this was ok to use because the nearest boating place is an hour away?

I asked the same question to my local SD dealer and their mechanics said for winterizing, it is fine. Thats all they use.

ok thanks, just wanted to clarify because there are 2 types of the "pink stuff" one that says RV and one that says RV/Marine (this is the one that specifically says it is good for aluminum engines).

All the ones I have found said RV and boat both on them. I would get the one that says marine. I stopped past the Sea Doo shop again tonight and looked at what they sell and it says that it is for RV and marine applications as well as any other water lines that need protected. It was made by Quicksilver.

I think you are worrying way too much, just use what you have and you should be fine. If its really not good for it, it will take more than just once to do any actual damage. If you are concerned, go get the other stuff or just use this for now and use marine next year.

I think you will be fine either way, just my opinion though.

That being said, is assuming you use it in fresh water (not ocean). Not sure about that one....
