Am I Getting Hosed Here

Just took my 99 gti to a local repair shop. They are wanting to charge me $1711 to rebuild my pump and put new exaust manifold and housing on it. he said that at least 800 of that was to rebuild the pump. he also was replacing the prop and other small things that are included in that price. seems like that kinda pricing I could drop a whole new or reman unit in there. am I off base here?

Sorry I didn't see you post earlier... Look at the math...Here in florida the labot rate is $99.00 per hour. Figure they are charging 5 hours...The parts could be 250.00 to 350.00 the impeller is bout $250.00

add it up...5 hrs@ 99.00= $500.00
Parts pump assy..............$350.00
Impeller..........................$250.00
misc...coffee break...........$100.00
total........................................$1200.00 I would ask for a breakdown and an exact parts list. Than go to " http://www.babbittsonline.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/default.aspx " and do your own parts pricing. Keep us posted.

am i getting hosed here? definately. i can think of better terms than hosed. somthing that usually happens to ho's.
