Have I commited a mortal Sin ???

Took my 97 out to blow the cobwebs off it (sorry to all you Northeners still freezing your butts ) as it was 81 degrees here today in SW Florida
was back at the ramp and a mr and mrs pull up in a pair of Kawacrappies sorry my spelling is terrible
any how up comes the trailer loads both on opens the hull drains and duly starts one up and proceeds to give it a few bursts of WOT :stupid:

needless to say it then runs away on him
he's yanks off the kill lanyard Nothing !!!!!
starts beating on the stop button Nothing !!!!
by this point im killing myself laughing
he rips the seat off and hurls it
We all have to duck !!! not Funny !!!!
he rips the spark plug wires off you guessed it Nothing !!!!

by this point the engine is into 5 digit RPMS and smoking like a hog roaster

So I shouted over to CHOKE IT CHOKE IT
he looks at me stupid !!!!

so I rush over and hit the choke and also pulled one of his filters off
and palm of the hand trick over the intake
sure enough in a few seconds the engine dies
block was hot enough for burgers had we have had any with us

He thanked me and I explained what and why it had happened and also how to flush his engine when he gets home then off he went

So my dilema is have I commited a mortal sin :reddevil: by helping keep another crappy Jappy ski going
or will the members of the forum Forgive me :(:(

^agreed

who cares what someone else rides, we all love the hobby, and you were looking out for someone else, you did the right thing in my book

had you stood there and let their ski grenade and think members on here would look poorly on you

so exactly what happened with his ski? i am new to the pwc klan, like to know incase it happens to me:stupid:

Mortal sin!....

You all are just to easy on him. I think we should have a session of the Seadoo Court. I shall call all witnesses and jurors.

If we should find you guilty of helping the crappy jappy, then you will be sentenced to 50 lashes with a wet noodle and have to rent a Kawa for 1 week at the nearest rental station.

I'll assume his runaway occured when he pulled the pump from the water. If so, the other thing he could have done would have been to edge it back of the trailer to load up the pump with some torque to slow it down.

The quickest way to stop the runaway was to do just as seadoo-owner did. It has to be choked to cool off the internal combustion chamber with gas. In the runaway, excessive rpm and heat combine to start a diesel affect from spontaneous combustion. The low amount of fuel going in is ignited by the heat of the cylinder and pistons. Melting of the spark plug will occur if it isn't brought under control quickly. Running for a longer period will cause a breakdown of the piston and scoring of the cylinder walls.

By choking as soon as you notice it, you cool this off with the excessive amounts of fuel combined with the lack of air to the cylinder.

Now............seadoo-owner, guilty as charged!:ack::rofl::cheers:

That's the thing about boaters in general. Pwc or Jet boat owner, we all help each other out.

Thanks guys
Yes
knew I had done the right thing by helping the guy out after the initial laugh at his expense

But I can't be held responsible for his poor taste in ski brands

Now for the benefit of our new member Iavnek
as you pull it out the water on the ramp and open your drain fine no problem !!

BUT if you choose to run your sea doo out of the water to get the salt water out of the exhaust do not rev it up !!!!!! let it idle only
or you could end up like our Jappy owner with an engine that will now last 6 months less than it would have done

Seadoosnipe
I have barred myself from consuming Ice cold ones for a period of one whole hr as of 2:30 pm today
thought the wet noodle lashes was a little severe for a first offence :(
is my sentence completed now Your Honor Judge Sir

4 or 5 full throttle bursts on the throttle is normal procedure to clear out the water from the exhaust system after leaving the water. If the engine runs away at full throttle when doing this, there are other problems that are causing it. It could be a lean condition (improperly adjusted carbs, air leak, plugged up carb jets etc.) or it could be a sticking throttle cable or bent throttle plate etc.

Thats exactly what he did
but on the 4th burst she went into orbit RPM wise
seems to be a lot more of this happening nowadays (seen several posts here about it)
could it be due to the 10% ethenol in the gas ???
More volatile ???

I Clear my skis out with a hose when i get home
idle the engine and run the clean water thru for a min or so with the salt away chemical adaptor/dispenser on my hose

Never had a screamer yet

Knock on wood !!!!

After you turn off the water, you should give the throttle a few blasts to clear the remaining water out.

Ivanek, you need to go back and read post #6 from seadoosnipe.
He already answered your question...uh he posted after your same question.

Usually it will die if you choke it, but I think he even took the air filter off and put his hand over the top of the carb to block all air flow.

I to from Sw Florida Went out yesterday got burnt from the dang sun. And yes help all boaters just like i let about four freaking mornons boats to not to park there boat at the launch but to back it up so others may enter and exit in a not so nice manner.

Freaking 50 yr old dudes chatting away in front of the ramp i bumped there boat into the dock with mine getting past them and yelled look at all this dock space and we got f@@@ing n00bs blocking the whole thing. They looked laughed and went back to drinking there beers and chating N00bs. :hurray::cheers:

Correct it was screaming that high an RPM was begining to doubt it would die
so fully blocked air /fuel to one cyl by putting palm over the top of the carb !!!!

Die you B%%%%%%%d
and it still took a few seconds but it stopped

Scary I agree there are a lot of idiots use the ramps here

there the ones who one day will be sorry not Me!!!!

the people i helped out with ski were locals
just didnt have a clue what to do when something goes pear shaped !!!!!!

I've seen engines back fire big time at the peak of a heat over rev...out the carb...scared the crap out of me...good thing MY hand wasn't over the carb!! I know better.
