Well this is my second boat and second depth meter. And I have to say they both SUCK! As soon as you are moving fast the turbulance cuases the screen to blink and not get a reading. I had the Hummingbird on my Sportster and have the Hawkeye on my Challenger. I have tried moving it higher/lower, change angle etc and nothing seems to work. Try maybe a thru hull type you may have better luck. The only good thing about the Hawkeye is it has the Air and Water temperature feature, at least that works:rolleyes:

this is with the transom mount or glue in?
I was looking at the Hawkeye with the shoot thru the hull glue in puck...

Transom mount on mine. I say go with the thru hull just make sure you install in good location as once it is in it will be difficult to remove.

There is a nice write up by Karl here, I read. I`ll try the same location he used on his challenger and see what the results are...

edit:
wound up going with the Hawkeye D10D depth sounder.
also picked up a perko single battery switch, and a grab handle for the boat...
I`ll post pics when it`s done...

First boat for me. Ended up wtih a Humminbird 160. Used silicone to mount it through the hull. (ski locker area) had it out last weekend and it work flawless up around 50mph...at 58mph it was just lines.....at 48 it was still giving a good reading. So evidently I must have done something right.
