Does anyone have a reasonably priced source for MPEM modules for 787 engines, (I have a 96 challenger) or expereince with after-market MPEM Kits for said engine?
How about a schematic for the guts of the MPEM and Nippondenso modules (detailled enough so that I can reverse engineer / repair the module that I have? (I am an Electrical Engineer)
What are the typical failure modes / usggested fixes for the MPEM?

An internal schematic doesn't exist.... publicly. (at least, I've never found one)

The unit, itself isn't that big of a deal... and any EE should be able to make an MPEM for a 720 and smaller engine. Basically... it's a rev-limiter, a power distribution center, and the security. (it's a standard one wire bus)

The unknown (to me) is that on the 800 engine... the CDI and the MPEM "Talk" to each other. I've never put a sniffer on it to find out the baud or data type... but I'm assuming that it's also serial communication as a "One wire Bus" since the microprocessor in the MPEM is already using that protocall on the DESS lanyard. That data takes care of the higher diagnosis, rev-limiter, and "Kill" of the ignition.

As far as the aftermarket MPEM's... they are hit an miss. I've seen a bunch work fine... and I've seen a bunch be dead out of the box. Personally... I would look for a used OEM MPEM. (If you aren't going to build your own)
