Adding rear view mirrors

I'm new to PWC's but just picked up a 97 and 96 GTS, to put around. Been busy trying to restore them, came across some rear view mirrors. Neither craft came with them, thought they might be a nice addition. Is it just as simple as drilling 4 holes? Anyone know where I can find a template or measurements of the mirror location?

People have different opinions of the usefulness of rear view mirrors. I have them on both my skis (they were added by the PO), but frankly I don't rely on them for anything much more than checking if my wife is still within site. If I'm making a turn across the water, I'm not risking that I didn't miss something in the mirror while bouncing along and always turn my head to verify the path is clear before altering course. Others will strongly disagree, but my personal opinion is that I wouldn't bother adding them, but to answer your question, yes it is just a matter of drilling 4 holes.

If i can get this mirror off this SPi I just picked up you can have it! damn thing is stuck on there good and just spins when trying to remove it. I think mirrors are ugly on seadoos :lols:

I have mirrors on both my ski's and IMO they are 99% useless, I do occasionally check to see if my ride buddy is behind me, but usually I just look over my shoulder, especially if making any kind of turn, the mirrors only offer a tiny view of what's actually behind you so if your going to change direction, its critical to do a solid visual sweep behind you just in case your buddy or some bass boat was hauling ass and was about to pass.

I do a lot of river runs where I need to constantly check if the guy behind me is still there due to the danger's involved and the number of twists and turns, on my last 30 mile run down the peace river (just two of us out there) I probably checked for him at least 30 if if not 40 times, I'll glance into the mirror and if I don't see him i'll look over my shoulder and slow down to let him catch up, It was important to know the he hadn't somehow ended up face first into the trees on a bad turn, my quick reaction might be the difference if I need to help somehow.

if it was me, i'd skip the mirrors, but if your determined to get them, then you can find them cheap and easy on ebay, and could just spray paint them the color you want if you can't find a perfect choice, The older ones for 2 strokes are usually $10-$15 + a few dollars shipping, they usually remove pretty easily (but ya sometimes the nut spins and on those I just give up because the mirrors are like $7 profit for me after shipping/fee's so I don't care too much)

edit: one friend i know with a blaster installed a bicycle/motorcycle style handlebar mount with a $7 mirror on it, it looks goofy but serves it purpose.

I only use my mirrors when other skis are following me. I glacé to make sure they are there. They really are not any good to use when pulling a skier or a tube.

We have odd laws here in NC and a single driver can pull a two person tube if you have mirrors. Otherwise you need a spotter. I pull with one knee up on the seat and looking back more than forward usually. The mirrors are of little use except to make it all legal. ( I added them to my 96 GSX but I used a complete later model GSX hood that came with mirrors so I can put the stock one on if desired)

To be quite honest I don't imagine they are too useful, but I have to admit I liked the looks of them with the mirrors
My wife would probably yell at me about wasting money, if she realized it was done here, but my kids will like them.

I already got one pair from different ebay sellers :D

Now where to drill the holes... I suppose I have to make my own template.
