add clear coat after painting hood?

I am spray painting my hood should I apply a clear coat? I'm not sure if a clear coat does any good on this type of plastic. Thanks Jefferson

That depends on the type of paint you used. Some paints need it, and some don't.

I painted my ski with Krylon Fusion then with a clear coat. Spraymax 2K urethane 2 part aerosol. 1 can is enough for the hood. It sells online or at auto-body supply stores for around $25 a can. It is easy to apply, dries fast and looks great.

Stick with the same product line for 1, if your using a rattle can they make differant types of paint, use the same type clear as the paint is such as acrilic enamel go with a acrilic enamel clear dont mix them up or you may regret it, oh and one more tip if going to prime then sand use bumper paint/primer as it is made to flex. most all rattle cans are single stage and it already clears to a nice finish I would not try to clear over that, if you are shooting a base coat only then yes clear it.

i used krylon fusion for mine, no clear coat, its on its second season, still holding up fine, just not as glossy as my buddies, who added clear.

If you put clear on over that fusion you can have very bad results, the clear may have a bad reaction and eat away the paint and then you have a mess to sand back down

Spraymax 2K clear coat works fine with Krylon Fusion. It makes a high gloss shine. I have not experienced any problems.The paint must be fully cured 7-10 days before applying the clear coat to prevent a negative reaction like bubbling or flaking.

yeah , make sure they are the same brand and everything, i didnt , and i have little bunches of cracks everywhere now............i regret painting the thing entirely , ......im just buying a good condition used hood off minnetonka4me.............i acutally like the metallic factory green lol

A bunch of little cracks is a typical result if you apply the clear coat before the paint is fully cured.
