A good day on the Pittsburgh Rivers

Hi All,

Yesterday was suposed to be a cloudy, rainy day... but DSW222 talked me into meeting with him on the south side of Pitt to help him break-in his new engine. His boat has been down since this time last year. But, with his busy life... he decided to send it to a local shop so he could "Get on the water quick" this year. Well... they had the boat for a few months... and he just got it back on Friday.

We hooked up around 11 am on Sat... and it even started raining on us... but we decided to push on.

We rode around for a while, and tied up to grab some lunch at The Red Fin Blues, on the Allegheny River... and by the time we were done... the weather broke... and it turned into a beautiful day.

While we were out... we saw a boat being put into the water from a Marina that was up on a hill. (hope they didn't drop it) And we saw a bunch of the "Ducks" out around the point, giving Pittsburgh tours. (They are converted amphibious military trucks)

Just thought I would share some pics.

Oh... sorry, but I was riding my Polaris. The Pitt rivers can get huge swells in them, and my little XP would be a lot of work to just put some miles on. The Big Genesis (4 passenger) can take the waves as well as any small boat.

Nice pics. I like the name of his boat. Looks like the pic with the purified water bottle is on the Allegheny, would have been a little ironic if that was on the Mon. Remember years ago when the Mon would actually catch fire, now it's so much cleaner they hold national bass fishing contests.

The pics turned out great, just like the weather. I'm glad we finally got to meet up... it was nice meeting the Legend :D

The break-in went great... it was running very well. Hopefully it will still run that way for the next tank of gas when there's no "safety oil" mixed in with the gas. I'm 2 for 2 at blowing engines since I bought it last summer, so maybe next year will be incident free (fingers crossed)

I'm sure you will be fine. In the no wake zone... you had a good amount of smoke... so the injection is working. BUT... I would still hold a mirror down by the pumps, and verify that they are set properly. (At idle, the notches should line up)

Jake... Yes... that was the Allegheny, looking toward the point. I haven't been in the state long... but I remember how bad the Mon was. It's cleaning up around the point.

Loos like fun. I actually made i out on the Ohio river sat for my 2nd trip out on the boat this year.

sounds like your saterday went better than mine, me, dad, and a friend went and took the atvs out into the woods. dad flipped his on the way back home. he's in the icu in the ashville hospital. he's got 5 broken ribs, a broke shoulder, a broke arm, and a collasped lung. he'll be lucky to make it past the next 72 hours...

PPE - very sorry to hear about your dad. I hope everything goes ok and he recovers quickly. keep us posted.

Doc, can you explain this? don't suppose you have a picture of what you are talking about?

Thanks for sharing the pictures. I was just over at PNC for a game about a week ago.

Jake... Nope... don' have a pic... but I can get you one later

Purple... OUCH !! I send my best wishes out for his recovery. I raced off-road for many years, and I know what it's like to take a bad fall. Now that I'm reaching 40... I feel all my old injuries.

hfgreg... you should have sent me a message. We could have hooked up for a drink. If you get back into Da' Burgh... let me know.

DSW222 sent me a few pics of the day... and I liked this one. It was taken from the restaurant... looking down at the toys. It gives a good view of how big my Genesis is tied up with an 18' Challenger. I think the only "Ski" that is bigger was the Seadoo LRV.

did you get a Primanti's sandwhich? one of the mainstays of Pittsburgh.

DSW, just curious, what is the max allowable people on that boat? wonderign cause couple weeks ago there were 4 girls in one on the lake here and I though the seating arrangement looked a little different, I think it was a 2001. nice looking boat by the way.

We got so many Pittsburgh guys on here we should have a big rally or something sometime. oh wait, I dont keep my toys in Pgh so would have to tag along with someone...

I was talking to a few people to get a Pittsburgh ride together... but it never happened this year. If DSW222 and djredman99 want to hook up in the next few weeks (before it get's cold) I would let you ride my XP.

There are at least 4 or 5 more members around. A new guy just showed up from west mifflin (sp?) a few days ago.

I know where Tony is at. DJ/DSW what area do you guys live in? I'm 30 minutes south of downtown (Peters Twp)

I am about 10-15 minutes from downtown in the North Hills. The closest launch ramps to me are South Side and the Kilbuck/Emsworth ramp in the next pool down the Ohio, which is a decent pool. You can run both sides of Neville island and down past Sewickly and there are no "No Wake" zones. Plus there is a nice outdoor beach bar with docks to grab some food.

BTW, I was at Raystown Lake last weekend. Other than the weather being crappy, it is an awesome lake, over 30 miles long. Was just over a 3 hour drive for me with a stop for gas.
Tony could probably be there in just over 2 hours. I highly recommend a trip out there if you never been there. Beautiful lake!

Spent about $400 in gas over the 3 days I was there for my two ski's, although my buddy paid for half of that since he was on my other ski.

RFoster...we will tell you when we meet next and you can start your way up the Ohio!!

That would be an expensive meet up. I would like to plan something maybe next year though. There are enogh of us from PA, MI and the Ohio area we could do our own meet since the Florida drive is kinda tough.

I've been out there a few times now... but I haven't made it out there this year.

So... you up for a day on the river? We have a few more weeks before the weather starts turning cold. I would like to see the section of river you are talking about. Where is the ramp exactly? (I'd like to google the map)
