99 XP limited vts

I have a 99 XP limited trim system won't work I tested the motor by connecting it directly to the battery and it works and I checked the fuse and it's good any input on what to look at next ? Thanks Ryan

Does the motor make a sound when you adjust the trim?
Did you pop up the buttons and see if it's damaged?

All gauges functioning?
Trace down and inspect the wires going from to the Vts all the way from the steering.

The vts gauge doesn't work the guy I bought it off of said it just quit working. The motor sounds good and there is zero Corossion

So the vts works when you use the trim buttons? It actually goes up and down but the trim gauge doesn't work?

No the button doesn not work nor does the gauge sorry I should have been more specific. The motor works if If i connect it straight to the battery it will go up and down.

If the motor works. Almost certain the module is bad. Very common failure. For now, manually put the VTS to the middle area and unplug BOTH the module and the motor. Reason why is, it is known that a bad VTS module can damage the MPEM. Which is very expensive to replace.

No worries
Pop up the vts button and inspect the lower parts of it. Check the cables connected to the steering, when you pop the top front cover, pull out the little black tray and check the wires.
You can test the gauges same way you tested the vts motor. Make sure the trim guage actually works.

Trace down the cable for the steering to your electric box. And electric box to the vts

I pulled apart the switch and when I press down on the trim button I hear a clicking in the motor ?

Are you sure it is the motor that is clicking? Normally it is the module that clicks. You should be hearing an internal relay within the module. This is common when it fails. You hear the relay but no power exits the module to feed the motor.

The module is part of the trim motor housing. If the motor works with 12V connected to it then there is a 99% change it is the module that is bad and 1% it is the switch. The switch can be easily tested for continuity.

When I hit the start switch the trim gauge works and when I hit the bottom trim switch you can here the relay so my guess is it's the motor

Easy test is to unplug the motor inside the trim unit and hook 12V to it if it moves it is the Module. Even if it doesn't move there is still a 80% chance the module is bad too.

He stated that the motor works as it was tested in post #1.

The clicking is 99% the relay, which means the module is bad. If so, do as I stated in post #6, if not, you can easily lose your MPEM,,,

I assume you mean MPEM,, if so, Multi-Purpose Electronics Module.

In the case of our ski's, it is the main brain and they are expensive to replace. For some reason, defective VTS modules can damage them.

I have the trim seat all the way up is that the best to leave at until I get it fixed

Best to set it in the middle if it is not functioning.
