So, on Saturday we embarked on our 10th hour out in our new (to us anyway) boat, before it, I checked the oil. It was 2/5ths of the way from the MIN to MAX markers. There's still a good 3-4" below the Min marker anyway., so I figured since it was just half way between min/max when I first took it out 8~10hours ago, I wasn't going to burn anything significant in the 1-2hours we were headed out for, so would be fine.
We headed out and right when I started up I noticed the eng oil light come on :willy_nilly:. I opened the hatch, looked in, and it hadn't suddenly drained empty (was at the same level)., so I figured it was a wiring glitch? Or sensor wasn't placed properly?
Headed out 15mins., no problems, then just-like-that the Left Engine died
. It just went from full speed (or what I know in it's sub-optimal condition to be full speed) to dead. Whatever I tried wouldn't get a turn. Just a clunk.
(Background: Lt Throttle Cable was kinked or stretched sometime with the previous owner, so I knew I needed to replace it, but it has been working reliably well up to this point. We tested it the first day I bought it, and it seemed to hold well.)
The Oil light would come on for 10mins then off, and cycle. I'm assuming the sensor is situated quite high then if I still had so much oil? Does anybody know if the oil is sucked from the BOTTOM of the tank or is it sucked up by a dropped tube? Maybe the tube isn't reaching the bottom half of the tank? Are there TWO tubes? One for left, one for right? And maybe the Left tube didn't reach the oil level in the tank?
Anyway, the Rt Engine still worked fine, THANKFULLY, so ended up 'limping' (lol., love that expression) back to the dock, a good 45mins if not more. Very strange experience riding in my Speedster AND able to have a normal conversation with my parents all the while (Yeah go figure, they FINALLY come for a visit and the boat dies on me lol. Well...at least I was able to get a good handful of screams out of my Mother, thanks to the Indy 500 cornering capabilities of this boat :thumbsup: ). It was actually nice to know I could, if ever again, coast along at a very slow speed-though I doubt that'll happen :drool5::drool5:
SO....
Pulled it out of the water., checked the impeller., no weeds., no flip-flops., no rope.
The sound it makes upon trying to start is a clunk., Just one clunk. Nothing is turning over., but Starter is working since it is trying to turn something?
The Rt Engine, starts fine, no problems.
If it was truly a low oil issue, wouldn't this affect both engines? I guess the only way is if coincidentally, simply stated, the left engine oil feeding tube (what's the techincal name for this?) got clogged or...?
My buddy who knows about basic trouble shooting, looked at it as we drove past his place coming back, and he didn't see anything obvious.
I'm headed back to the place that I took it to for an hour of labour to see if they could temporarily & quickly tune the throttle cable as is (before replacing them-but of course they can't source the cable...which surprises me, because In 24hours, I've already found TWO potential custom cable suppliers thanks to this forum  ). I asked the guy, if his diddling would negatively impact performance as I had used it for 10hours up to that point-reliably!, and he said yes definately.
Assuming the lt Eng didn't get any oil...what's the worst case scenario? What's the likely scenario? What kind of repairs am I looking at cost-wise? be gentle. What happens when an engine is "seized"?
The only other thing I can pull out of the air, is if the Lt Cable finally snapped? If you don't have a cable putting even the least bit of tension on the throttle...what would the engine ignition sound/sequence be like? Shouldn't it turn over at least? or not at all?
Be gentle anyways oh wise Seadoo Veterans.
EDIT: Turned out Engine was fine., Jet Pump Seized. Cone was cracked by previous owner over tightening, is being rebuilt. Engine was OKAY!!! Sensor was just low.
