I picked up a 99 Sea-Doo GTX as a project and found two batteries inside. Can anyone tell me why it has two?

I'll hazard a guess.....the ski has a rectifier problem which was preventing the "connected" battery from maintaining a charge....therefore the PO kept a spare inside the ski IF/WHEN the connected battery wouldn't start the ski.
A properly functioning ski (electrical system is working properly) only needs 1 GOOD battery installed.

It is very odd. The big gray one was in the front compartment and has a power wire that runs back to the box in the back. The little black battery ran to the opposite side of the box. I guess I can just disconnect the gray one and put a brand new AGM in place of the black one. Thanks for the reply! Oh, and both batteries were connected at the same time.

That is strange. Was the big grey one up front GROUNDED to anything? Running a power wire from the front battery to the rear box wouldn't do anything unless there was a complete closed circuit.????
Maybe they were running/powering an accessory (GPS? USB port?) - who knows, people do some weird/creative stuff.

It was grounded to the engine. Very strange. I’ve never seen it before.
