well i started the project a few weeks ago and will have it done in the spring time. pulled engine and sent it out to ses for a premium rebuild, cleaned the bilge with purple power. the deck of the ski is in pretty good shape, just a little faded so i will power buff it and wax. the bottom of the hull is what i consider in rough condition (will post pics when upside down) and will need to do some gel coat repair, wet sand and buff. this is my first project so i will learn as i go especially the repair on the bottom of hull. i also ohm checked most of my sensors and stater and all is good so far. I haven't decided if I'm going to replace the injectors or send them to the fuel injector man for rebuild and cleaning. going to replace the fuel pump and regulator just to make sure as well as the rectifier with a 4 tec one from odc as well as rebuild the starter. i'm going to do my best at making sure this ski is in top condition mechanically before i fire her up and to make sure everything is done for a great season next year! keeping my fingers crossed! stay tuned.

as you can see the vts is pristine and works as well. going to order a new cover for it as the original one has a broken tab.

Sweet! I can't believe you get to work in your kitchen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hehehe yep kitchens work out really well!:D J/K those are actually the are the old cabinets from our kitchen and i inherited them when we installed new ones. every time the wife and i watch renovation shows it make me cringe when they take a sledge hammer to the old cabs! put them in the garage!!!! the bottom cabs make a great work bench!

just got word that my engine is being shipped back to me from ses. just got the tracking no and says it will be here next Thursday dec 12,
tom said the bores were standard size and bored them to 25mm over size and that all still looked pretty clean before the rebuild other than the PO installed wisco pistons backwards hence is why it didn't run very good and showed low compression. total time from he day i shipped it to when i get it back will be 8 weeks. been kinda slow going on the project but should be at full speed after the holidays.

PS, i realize on the title of this thread i spelled resto wrong! any way that can be changed?

i finished my 99 rfi not long ago and re-did everything. just have to get the darn vts to work. the motor is good though. gonna have to dig deep to fix that

That will keep you busy over Christmas. What did you decide on the injectors? Replace or rebuild?

Also check the condition of the carbon seal on the driveshaft before you install it, nice to change it now while the pump is off, if needs be.

yep i have 8 days off between Christmas and new year. that's probably the time i will flip the ski upside down for gel coat repair, sanding and buffing. i found a place that sells seadoo yellow gel coat so hope it matches closely. as far as injectors, I've had mechanic friends say that rebuilding them is a good way to go as they have done many without issues and as good as new so i will probably send them to the fuel injector man. from what i can see the carbon seal looks good but will double check. i did buy new drive shaft bumpers as one of the old ones is toast. also need to get my hands on a alignment tool.

my .02 , you have a 99 ski, with 2014 just around the corner, that puts your fuel injectors approx 14 - 15 years old, with a rfi ski, there is no fuel line replacements, carb overhauls, chokes, simply an intank fuel pump with 2 filters, and 2 injectors , if you are putting a new motor in it, i would replace them .... i learned the hard way, besides, there is an inlet filter, pulse coil, plunger, needle valve and seat which the seat is the housing ...

thanks griz, makes sense to go new. reading your rfi thread i saw the part numbers on the in tank fuel filters which are good numbers at auto zone so i will get those. i also found a fuel pump on eBay that has a Bosch part number, tell me what you think. point your mouse to enlarge the picture and you can see the bosch name on it. hopefully not a knock off.

i figured while i'm replacing the filters, may as well replace the pump too.
was wandering if i should go with a fuel regulator as well? is there a way to test while apart and do do they go bad often?

well i got a little accomplished today, i ohm checked the rave solenoid and crank position sensor so all my fuel system sensors are good to go. i pulled apart the exhaust water regulator and was clean and in good condition. also flushed out the oil tank, once dry, i will install new grommets, tygon hoses, check valve and filter. pulled the grab handle off and is amazing how much dirt and gunk lived under it.
thanks to griz, I've decided to replace and not repair the fuel injectors.
is the correct setting red knob on the water regulator flush?

cool! just ordered the pump. those strainer part no are good at auto zone too and right across the street from my work so I'll get them there. thanks. I'm not going to worry about the fp regulator for now as it looks like it will pop off without pulling the pump assy.

sweet deal, nothing like saving a few dollars --

hey, i looked up that place, http://www.herko.com/ -- seems a good place, if you are happy with it all, post it all up on the rfi spot, ok, will be some good info -- good find

I agree. I was intimidated by the RFI's at first but Griz talked me into trying an RFI last year so I bought one.
Cheaper to rebuild the fuel system and virtually no tuning. Once familiar with the electronics very easy to maintain an reliable. If I could I would trade all my carbed skis for RFI's.

:agree: very simple and should prove about as reliable as a fuel injected auto.

hey, since you have your ski all apart, check and see if you can get a number on the throttle position sensor, i know what the seadoo number is, but just like fuel injectors, if you can get the number off the part, you can get one alot cheaper -- seadoo injector in box is like 170.00 ea. -- bosch part inside the box, 75.00 ea.

analog speedometer

took me 4 hours but finally filled the empty space on my rfi gauge cluster and installed a speedo and quite happy with the results. as most of you know the gsx rfi only has the info center. i pulled the info center measured the mounting hole and made a template. remeasured several times to make sure it was perfect as i didnt want to screw it up as it was quite scary!
cut the hole with a 2 3/4" hole saw and used a dremel with a barrel sander to finish it off to 3 1/2".
not so scary after all! lol! now to wire it up. i have a old non working info center off a 97 gsx that has the plugs for the speedo as the rfi one doesn't, going to rob the plugs from the extra info center and tap into the one for the rfi
should be very easy. color coated wires are the same.

no the info center on the gsx rfi doesn't have the plugs but the 97 does, so far the way i see it on the 97, the as per schematics and looking at the 97 gsx info center, which has 2 plugs, one 2 pin and the other 4 pin but only 3 are used, the 2 pin plug has a purple and a black wire which ill cut off the 97 info and install it on the rfi by cutting the purple and black wires and hooking the plug to the wires that go to the info, the 4 pin plug has a purple, black and purple with yellow stripe that plug will go to the wires i cut leading the the mpem and the remaining purple with yellow stripe will be spliced to the one to the info to mpem, then just plug the 2 analog speedo plugs to the 2 plugs i installed to the info center. i hope that makes sense. it should work right?

just looking at the 99 gsxl schematics, for the analog speedo the purple with yellow stripe wire go to the mpem /speed sensor so looks like i'm on the right track, any info otherwise please chime in.

not very hard at all, after removing the hood from the ski, on the gsx, there are 21 screws that hold the bottom cover. if i remember right it took a 5.5mm nut driver which i had to grind down to make thinner to get to 2 of them.
