'99 GTX LIMITED bogs

Ok, first time in the water since I've had it (well my small pond anyway). On this '99 GTX Limited.

What might cause hesitation on the throttle..it started right up, idled fine. Went back and forth a few times. When you accelerate it bogs for a second or 2 builds slowly and then takes off and hits the power band I guess you call it.

History, new to me and my first ski. Had old gas in tank, had oil everywhere in the hull, pretty sure the tank was leaking so I cleaned the hull, installed new tank, grommets, oil line, oil filter. Replaced fuel filter and all 6mm grey fuel lines and will replace 8mm ones soon. Fuel filter has this nasty rubbery sludge in water separator thingy wich I assume is the breakdown of the grey fuel lines. I sprayed fogging oil in the cylinders and then bled the oil lines, primed the pump for 2 cycles of 10 seconds of starting holding the oil pump wide open (while plugs were removed and placed on grounding posts). I drained the fuel tank but maybe the 1/2 gallon I couldn't get out. I mixed 1 gallon of 40:1 fuel and dumped it in (I know combined mix ratio was less because of the fuel that was in tank). I pulled the return line from the tank and put vacuum to the line making sure fuel was being sucked in the fuel filter. I sprayed a little more fogging oil in the cylinders then....

I backed it in my pond. Sprayed just a hair of starting fluid in on carb and she started right up on the 2nd try of of few seconds cranking. It idled fine and smoked a bit for for the first minute or so. Then went back and forth and she hesitates, bogs down then will take off...

Where do I start? Carb rebuilds, Rave valve (need to learn those). Any dead would be great. Thanks!

I saw your carb rebuild kit.. looks very detailed. Do these look like the right JIS and rebuild kits for a 99 GTX LMT I believe it has the 951/947 engine. Thanks

When I suspect the fuel I drain every drop... then I use a rag and wipe the bottom. I use masking tape on a pick up tool get every speck of dirt I can out of the tank. If you got shit gas in there it's only gonna foul the rest of the fuel. If you have hesitation check the accelerator pump system to make sure it's all clear and spraying properly. There is an adjustment on the accelerator pump to alter the contact point of the pump cam. Make positively certain both needles are spraying in the carb throats or just eliminate the accelerator pump system. Good Luck !!

Thanks guys. Found OSD.
1- Should I just go ahead and order the accel pump diaphragm as well?
2- Which one would I need for a 99 GTX LTD?
3- Where does the needle/arm pin set go and do these likely need to be replaced?

Thanks again, I really appreciate it.

Leave the arm and oem spring replace the needle and seat and all other soft parts inside the carb replace orings on adjuster high and low speed

I like to replace the needle arm and pin and have had used ones cause issues. Especially if someone else was in there messing with them.

Ok, so I am going to order the carb rebuild kit. While I am in there I want to replace everything related I guess.
1) rebuild kit
2) needle arm/pin set
3) for a '99 GTX Limited, do I need the square one or the round rubber one or both?

And besides replacing the fuel lines and fuel filter, is there anything else fuel related I should order?

thanks guys.

You will have to check to see what pump you have, round or square.
You will need new needles and seats.
I would replace the fuel selector also.

Yep, forgot to mention was going to replace the fuel selector also. Sorry to be a pain but have a few more questions and OSD is closed until the 11th..
1 - Do the needle and seats come in the kit? Or are those the needle arm/pin I am buying separately? And do I need to order 2 sets since there are 2 carbs?
2 - I am trying to figure out this diagram so I know where to look for the accelerator pump, where is it and do I need to order 2 diaphragms because of 2 carbs or is there only 1 accelerator pump?

Sorry for the dumb rookie questions.
Thanks

1. No the needles and seats don't come in the kits.
2.If not buying from OSD you need two sets of everything, except see 3 below.
3. No, only 1 accelerator pump total.

Thanks. Sorry I sound clueless. In the description of the kit above and below it says includes "Includes Two (2) NEW 2.0 OEM MIKUNI Coated VITON Needle Valve Assemblies." Does this mean it DOES actually come with the needles and seats (are those the needles and seats I circled in green below?) This is the link to the kit I think i need for the '99 GTX LMTD. They are closed until the 9th so I can't call them but can order them online.

Ok, carb out. I took off this side real quick and lots of black stuff. (Is this the accelerator pump, is it in the front or rear of the carb?). While it was together, when I push the throttle, I can hear and see fuel being pushed out through only the rear (I think they call it PTO carb). Is that normal?

No, the first picture is part of the fuel pump side.

Circled in red is your accelerator pump.
When working correctly it will squirt fuel out the brass fittings circled in yellow. It is typically the brass fittings that plug up.

Thanks. I think the right one was definitely plugged up. I held my finger over the left brass fitting and pumped the carb. Nothing came out the right. When I pumped a few times the pressure built up and was had to push and all the sudden the pressure started to release and fuel popped out the right side slowly and now more aggressively. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond. I'll get into the tear down tonite. Thanks!

Darn, no one has Genuine Mikuni Rebuild kits in stock. OSD website says they have them but then a disclaimer saying don't trust the quantity :) and they are closed until the 10th...Tere are a few on ebay but they aren't responding to 100% confirm they have them and not just a generic listing. I send OSD a Facebook message but not sure if they will respond being closed.

If try to clean the carb internals and reinstall it as is...
What should I use to clean the rubber parts?
If I am reinstalling with same parts, do I need to do any "pop off" testing... I really do not want to do or have the gauge or knowledge on how tot do that)

Thanks again

Just a "clean" typically never works. This is one of those things that really has to be perfect with no shortcuts.

Wow, these carbs definitely needed cleaning, a bunch of restricted and plugged passages. I think I found the parts I need. Quick question. I was reading your sticky carb post (awesome, thanks) and mentions there is a jet in the small rubber lines that say do not need to be replaced. I used compressed air to clean everything, Could I have blown out the jet? And does a 951 (199 GTX LTD) even have this jet in the rubber hose? I do not see it in parts diagram if I highlighted the right area to look. Thank you!
