I am looking to buy a 1999 seadoo gtx rfi jet ski from a local fella, it has low hours 111 or so. Today I took it for a test drive and while acclerating it was hesitating, (kinda cutting in & out) but once I got moving it seemed ok, although I did notice the top speed was only 40 mph. He told me he had the engine rebuilt 3years ago and that he hasnt had it serviced since. Does this sound like something major or minor? I want to buy the ski but at the same time dont want a lemon. Thanks a lot and I hope to be a owner soon!

It needs work may be you can offer him a price to repair ski and let him have work done and then take it for another test ride. I say this from experiance as I have put way more $$ in my boat than I would have ever thought to get it right. make sure ski runs perfect before you buy.

Sounds like something to do with the fuel injection to me, seems as if its not getting fuel. He had the engine rebuilt 3 years ago and told me he hadnt had it serviced since. How much does it cost to service a ski? How about the cost of rebuilding it? I may offer a lower price and set aside $300 for work that may need done.

Thanks!

$300.00 is only chump change. in a perfect world it would be enough. but remember what boat stands for [break out another thousand]. good luck I hope it is beter for you then it has been for me. Robin

Here is a link that might help you decide on a used seadoo. http://www.seadooforum.com/showthread.php?t=134

Something to remember is that labor rate here in Florida is $99.00 per hour. I haven't too many seadoo's go in for repair for less than 4- 5 hrs minimum for labor...plus parts. My suggestion is to tell the owner or have it running better and you'll consider it. If it runs like it does I would pass as there are a lot of good running seadoo's on the market. If he wants to sell it he'll get it fixed...becides who wants to loose a buyer in todays market?

Thanks Karl - Can you tell me how much it costs to get a ski serviced here in sunny FLA?

Uh... I think I just said that...it runs about $99.00 per hour, and depending on what you need done. In Tampa, there are a few real good dealerships. I have had a good experience with Barney's, when I purchased mine back in January. That is just my own personal opinion.
