99 GTI jumped a wake and lost all electric power, won't turn over

Guys,

I just bought a 99 GTI that allegedly ran fine on 4th of july. Previous owner jumped a wake, came down upright and engine died. No electrical at all, no two beeps, no five beeps with no lanyard, no nothing. I'll start with the fuses, what should I check after that?

Thanks,

depends on how long submerged, open all electrical boxes, drain the oil, more then likely, water got into intake system, check how secure battery is, all connections....etc

Jump landed upright, nothing submerged. We were able to jump across the solenoid to do a compression test before I bought it. No electrical activity at all.

I'll try that tonight, I've got a new one in the SPX. Seems strange though, battery was strong enough to run the compression test easy but makes no other activity with the lanyard in.

Hold on,..you say, that battery is in, and will turn the ski, but no gauges or beeps will work? Start with fuses, then double check all connections...

Yup, battery is good. turn the motor well when jumped across the solenoid but no other activity. All three fuses are good. I'll go through all the connections over the next couple of nights. I think on this model the fuses are on the MPEM instead of inside it. There's also one in the rear box but it's good. Thanks for the advice though. This forum is the single reason I sought out a Seadoo over any other brand.

uhh...maybe he gave you wrong landyard, does he have other ski? He will say anything to sell it, you know, no offense....could be bad landyard....

Gave me two lanyards but even if they were the wrong ones wouldn't I get a short and long beep after hitting the start button five times?

I just ran down a similar problem with my 92 Xp. I don't know how close they are in design. The same thing happened to us on the lake. the boat just died. It would not even think about turning over.nothing. Check your lanyard switch. There are 2 parts. The plunger with metal frame and a waterproof plastic enclosed push button. The push button had worked it's way out of the frame so that the plunger was no longer engaging the button. I realigned the button in the frame and gently reclamped with the metal hold down tabs of the push button frame. Voila. It fired right up.The other thing it might be is your kill switch. Run a continuity check on that if need. After several hours of head scratching and thinking it was something major, as usual, it was something simple. Best of luck. I have to post a question myself.

I just jiggled the 5 amp fuse on the MPEM on my $900 jet ski and it cranked!!!! I must be living right. Thanks to all for the advice.
