98gtxl faulty oil temp sensor and tach reads 8000 at idle

Was riding last weekend had some water in the hull and had just gased up. After an hour temp and oil light went on. LCD display was not reading well and giving off general characters. I added oil and still get oil low warning when I am now about half full of oil Also engine is cool to touch but temp light (not buzzer) is on. I shorted engine head temp sensor and buzzer went off so that is working. Also at idle tach reads 8000 rpm. I did VDC test and it shows 13.5 volts steady. I unplugged and clean all harnes plugs including MPEM and still have oil and temp alerts and also my fuel gauge died and I do have updated float. Does anyone feel this is mpem related. Please help.

Is your idle 8000 rpm or is that what the gauge shows? It sounds like a bad gauge. Is your temp. and tach. on the same gauge?

Lou

I think Lou is leaning in the right direction.

Other than brain boxes and gauges there is no connection to your complaints. Thus, I would thing the cluster as the ski seems to run well.

Is the float for the oil operating? Not sunk?

Yes Lou and JOe, I believe it is the cluster. The tach analog reads normal but the info gauge reads 8000. Also the oil and temp sensor along with the fuel reading appear to be next to each onther on the PC board of the info gauge. I suspect an open on the board. I will see if a 97 info gauge willw work. I alm looking at opening up the guage and looking at the pc board. Yes ski runs normal but oil, temp and fuell gauge along with tach don't work and this is all on the info gauge only. Thanks guys.
