98 Speedster jet pump oil change

Got the pumps back together, but there's one problem. I only replaced one wear ring and I did not buy OEM. There is an 1/8 inch gap where the ring is supposed to sit down in the pump housing. We filled the gap with silicone. Will this gap create an issue? Is it best to buy the correct wear ring before I use the boat?

Silicone isn't gonna work. Some guys put a set screw in to hold it. I would send it back and order OEM.

I had 2 stroke oil in my bilge too. I found the check valve on the oil tank was bad and leaking. To find this valve just follow the oil line up from the oil level sensor and it should be on the end of it, located near the ski pylon. Secure the new one to the line with a zip tie and make sure the valve is in the right direction.

Thanks. I'll check the "check valve" today. There seems to be some oil on the lines as the extend out from the bottom of the tank and the way to the engine. It's hard to tell where it's coming from. Might be just the grommet on the tank or maybe other places as well. I'll post what I find. I plan on taking it out today to see if what we put back together actually works.

I'm more concerned with the wear ring so I'll see how it holds up today.

The boat ran fine today!! I will probably pull the pumps after a few more times out on the lake just to make sure everything is fine on them.

As far as the oil leak, I haven't found it yet, but will continue to look. Thanks to everyone who responded with help!

hmmmm, good to know.

I'm off to recce an aftermarket WR just now actually. Need to see if it fills the same space or has a noticeably gap. I haven't removed the lip of the old WR yet.
