Hello everyone new to the sight and seadoo's as well so bare with me please. So the story goes i bought a gtx ltd with trailer that "needed a starter" and maybe a little more. Well it needed a starter because it was hydrolocked not sure of how long, but anyway i got the water out and got the ski running, never checked compression levels-dumb i know. I replaced the grey fuel lines,fixed the manifold/exhaust waterfall onto the carbs and cleaned the carbs out etc.. So on the maiden voyage it ran great for about 5 minutes stalled refired a couple times for a few minutes bogged down and died completely. I pulled one of the rave valves when i got home and can see the pistons scarred, the compressions gone etc.. Sooo what im getting at is at this point i'm into this ski for about$800 total right now the hull is in real good shape, dash and everything works so i'm contemplating going with an SBT engine and thinking i'll be ok after that instead of parting out to recoup some money and starting over with a newer more expensive ski that could blow at anytime too. The ski was running on premix and showed no signs of overheat so i think i was doomed from the start with the engine, which i figured when i bought it was just trying to get a "cheap" toy for the family to finish out the summer on. I'm preatty confident in doing the swap myself other than needing an alignment tool- do you really if mounts and impellar are left in place ? Sorry for the rambling just trying to give as much info as i can, thanks in advance for the help !

hmmm, you'd then have about $2200 invested into a $2000 ski, but you'd have a new motor.

i'd probably part it out and cut my losses, you have over $800 in parts

How close are you to HBG, PA? I buy blown 951 skis in good shape, to refurb them. I don't like parting them out. It's sad for them to go to pieces.

private message me.

Or, if you want to rebuild it on your own, I suggest The SEA-DOO Engine Shop in Horsham, PA. They did my last 4 engines and I am beyond thrilled with their work. Their turn around flat out sucks at 4-5 weeks, but they are a lot closer and less expensive than SBT.

Does it have the oil tank and pump still in the hull? I have an oil pump from a 98 actually in my basement I could put on it.... I even have all the parts to a 98 lol.

Even a black steering cover off a 01 XP that would make that 98 look like a 99.

and I do mean thrilled. I have a 02 XP that runs 6,950 RPM WOT and 65 MPH. GPS.

The fun part is knowing the order to remove / reinstall the 951 and the tips / tricks to make it go smoothly...

I wouldn't mind a winter project, but it's your choice, I pay cash, assuming you have legit title to trailer and ski. clearly I won't be water testing it.

Also, when something needs "just a starter" what they mean is "needs a starter because there's other stuff wrong I don't want you to know about"...
