Hello, the 98 GTS I got from buddy still giving us fits. Problem is sometimes it just wont start, then suddenly it will. Last year we thought it was the starter button because jiggling that worked. But upon really tracing the power circuitry we came to the 5 amp fuse. the original was not blown, but slightly melted at the contact to the post. So replacing would be the end of it, but no, circuit thru the 5amp still off and on. But reseating the fuse and the socket movement pretty consistently restores the circuit temporarily. Obviously not a good thing. So cut it open and solder the socket??? Have no idea if diode is blown, how would I test that???

On a side note this doo will kill the battery if left unused for a while, 1st time shame on me, 2nd time was the guy who was supposed to take battery offline for storage didn't do the job.

Check your charging stator. The circuit feeds through it. You can get repair manuals off the Internet. It should have check out procedures. Just need a VOM to check circuits. Starter switch my need replaced. Check all the junction plugs in the harness. Check the main engine ground from battery. Protect connections with dielectric tune up grease. Do not put into the female junction plugs. Swab on the male ends with a Q tip.

Went for the low hanging fruit and got a new starter relay, while it worked while we were tracing circuits, there were other voices saying to check that. So with a new relay, while we are still testing its consistency, the starting problem is much improved. I did buy a new starting button last year and both work when we plug it in. The machine also beeped very inconsistently before but now its behaving much more stable. Although the first connection with the DESS key does not start, doing it the 2nd time its starting. I'm not sure if this is the last of the starting problem but we'll go from here.

Went for the low-hanging fruit and got a new starter relay, the machine is starting very quirky but consistently. The 1st time you put the key on it wont start, but after reseating it will every time now. Hopefully we can find time to check out that stator soon.

If I understand your original post, the female connections for the 5A fuse aren't making good connection? If so, you'll continue to have intermittent issues until that is resolved. You also mentioned that your battery goes dead if it's not used for a while. Is that a week? A few months? I'm just wondering if you have a battery drain, but it depends on the time frame.
