did some lookin around cant find a cut and dry answer. when i charge the battery it starts and runs fine but while running the 12v low light is on the entire time. i dont know if its charging or not. i took an ohm meter to the solenoid and it ohmed across the posts (battery unhooked). when i unplugged the connector with the yellow-red tracer and black wire it still ohmed. but when i unpluged the red-purple tracer wire on the 15a fuse it no longer ohmed. the diagram dont really say what the red-purple wire is for as far as i can see. i put everything back together it no longer ohmed and started right up but 12v still on and when i unhook or hook up the battery it sparks pretty good i dont think that should happen. any help is very much appriciated. im gunna give up on the spx untill winter but i would really like to get this one on the water this summer!! thanks a bunch

Put your meter on the battery. Start the ski, and bring it up to 5000 rpm. You should be seeing about 13.5 v. (ez test)

well i went to my shop manual and i did some checking. if i unplug the stator and put an ohm meter to the 3 leads i get .7 ohms on all,the manual says between .1 and 1.0 is good and anything less than .1 is a short. it also says to ground one lead on the meter, check all three wires and if you find continuity its a short... mine ohms out... so my stator is bad i would guess? i didnt want to hook it up and test as bad as the positive cable sparks when you just touch the positive post. has anyone done the continuity test also? also what is everyones thoughts on a used stator and mag in the cover for a 951 motor, one on ebay said to have come off a running ski and in working condition 90 bucks? or a brand new stator by itself for 110 on ebay

Did you test the battery at idle?

no im kinda scared to hook the battery up the way it sparks. but i did leave the stator unpluged and hooked the battery up it started and ran fine again. the shop manual also says something about runing it and checking the ac voltage output on the stater wires and it should be like 45 vac.

Sounds like the stator to me... on that ski you will have to pull the pipe, but you can can then swap the stator w/out removing the engine (you will have to remove the front mount and suspend the engine from above or below.
