Picked up 2 skis yesterday.
96xp and 98 GSX
XP seems good new clear fuel lines and 160 psi on both cylinders.
just need to find the no spark issue, most likely the CDI unit in the grey box.

98 GSX 951 grey motor
Missing carbs and key
looks really clean inside
Can I look at the hours on the ski with out the key?
Motor is locked up. moves a small amount with a screwdriver in the PTO bolts.
seems like the pistons are seized?
I have rebuilt things in the past so I guess I'll dive into this engine.

If your 98 is like the 96, pressing the start button with the battery installed will wake up the gauges for about 30 seconds. If you have a mode button you can cycle through any display functions and get to the hours with the 30 second period.

On the 96, check that you have a good battery, load tested, then check the grounds in the rear E box, then, put a test light onto the white pulse wire, turn over the motor, the test light will blink if you are getting a signal from the CDI. If yes your issues are in the E box, if not, (no blink), you know that your issues are up stream in the cdi, or the pickup coil/trigger coil. Also check the front 6 pin connector, male and female sides, use a mirror to check the male side. Also, check that the exterior black ground wire going into the rear Ebox is sturdy.

DUDE !!! Great INFO !! Practical and Easy to follow. When I got my first GTX it was a big mystery but I ended up finding the problem was a dirty mag housing and the magnet on the trigger coil had metal on it which prevented it from detecting the passing of the rotor. Good Stuff !!

I can't imagine a 130hp engine in the GS hull. LOL Yikes !! I don't think I'd try to save the 951, just pull it and rebuild it complete that way you know what you have. Hours don't mean much at this stage of the game for the old skis. If engines have not been replaced they need to be. Good Luck !!

START a THREAD and post pictures of the journey.

Are the 951 grey engine the same from 1998 to 2000 I see the Mot. nr. is different
the 97.5 was white and the first 951. very rare. easily explodes. special pipe
1998 was the first run of the 951. some problems. single coil ignition.
99-02 are 99% the same engine wise.

So are the silver 98's different than the 99-02?
What are some issues that can be fixed?
So as I'm doing a rebuild i can improve things.
Also what coil goes is the GSX? Same as the XP 800 ski?
I see there are 2 different style coils
Thanks
