Hey guys im a complete noob to the seadoo world so please bare with me, I just picked up a 98 Challenger with the twin(i think 717's) anyways it idles perfect but when i go to punch it from the hole the port engine is fine but the star goes to about 4500 rpms then shoots to 7000 with no pick up then after about 10 sec hold on cause it just goes. I have been doing some reading on here about Cavitation what is it exactly? and how do i go about at fixing my problem? any help would be great. Thanks

Cavitation is air in the pump. With a problem as bad as you are describing... i'd say it's the carbons seals. Also... inspect/replace the pump parts as they go back together.

may be a dumb question but will that do any harm to the engine? not sure how long its been like that I just noticed it yesterday as it was my first time on the water with it. Also how long would it take to change the seals? Im pretty handy with a wrench...

Short term it wont hurt anything. Its not a good idea to let the engine bounce off the rev limiter for an extended period though.

OK no problem, I ordered the part anyways im going to look at the seal when I get home from work today.

is the Carbon Seal the same as the Through-Hull seal noted in the Shop Manual in the trouble shooting section?

ok I have taken some pictures can you tell me if things look normal from the outside
