Hi everyone, Hoping for some insight and a little help with the infocenter on my NEW 97 GTX. I just picked the ski up this weekend and it runs great. It has a new battery and just tuned up from the dealer I was told (have a receipt anyway).

The only issue is the info center does not work correctly. I can see everything fine, so I don't think it is the polarized film issue that I see on here, but the majority of the info doesn't read correctly. The digital compass, time and RPMs(both digital and analog) all work fine, but the fuel gauge isnt working, displaying low fuel warning, low battery warning, and neither the digital or analog readout of speedometer works.

I did read the posts about the fuel tank baffle fix, but didn't see anything about speedometer or battery low indicator, before I pull the baffle and cut it open, I figured Id ask the pros.. seems to me that these aren't that related in nature and it may be a connection or something with the gauge cluster itself. Is it common for all of these issues to happen at the same time?

Where is the first place to start? Im going to start checking fuses and connections today. Any fuses on the speedo system

Thanks in advance

I'm not sure that everythings realated.

Check the baffel in the fuel tank, the float probably needs to be replaced, get a new molded type. In my limited experience its been the float, the magnets usually fall out.

The speedometer is most likely caused bay a missing paddel wheel thats mounted on the ride plate. I could be wrong but I don't think there is a digital display for the speedometer, only analog.

The low voltage could be different things, battery, battery cables, corrosion, regulator. We're probably going to need to trouble shoot.

Lou, thanks for the quick reply. The speedo is analog (and not working) but there is also a top speed MPH digital readout mode that doesnt work, that what I was referring to as well.

For the fuel guage: I did check the float today all magnets were intact but was only be semib-boyant in gas so I ordered a new one. I should have it in a week and will report back then on that part. I jumped the pink and pink/ black plug from from the sending unit to the gauge showed full as I saw in another post and it appears the guage works fine, so I think the F1 fuse is good still... hopefully the float fixes the issue.

Speedo: I checked all the connector plugs through out the ski today and applied dielectric grease to make sure the connections were all good. The speedo paddle wheel is in good shape and moving freely. Do you know if there is a fuse for the speedo somewhere, or better yet.. how do you remove and open the grey fuse panel in the front of the ski? I tried to to remove it and open it but there must be a trick to it and I didnt want to break anything

Low Voltage Issue: I think this is something with the guage as well again, only showing low voltage. I have a new battery in there and the reads 12.3 volts fully charged, I get an output reading of 13-15 volts when running so appears that the stator is charging it. The terminal ends and wires are clean with no sign of corrosion.

Any other things I should check?

Thank you all!

Thanks for the info. I put a new float in and the gas gauge now works correctly. Any thoughts about the speedometer? I checked all the electrical plugs I could find from the paddle in the rear up to the speedometer info center and reapplied dielectric grease to them. If the wheel spins freely and the connections are all good is there a fuse or something else I am missing?

I still have "low battery" being displayed but I guess Ill trouble shoot the speedo first. I know that battery is holding a charge.

Thanks again!

Anyone know how to trouble shoot the speedometer on a 97 GTX? I looked at the paddle and all connections and they look good, no corrosion or broken wires. is there a way to diagnose the paddle its self? or the guage? I know there is a thread on here somewhere but I couldnt locate it doing a search.

thank you

For testing the paddleweel sensor you will need a test light and will need to hook one end to the battery and the other end to the sensor completing the circuit, you will see the light go on and off or flicker when you spin the wheel, if not your circuit in the sensor in compromised. Try applying pressure with your finger on the epoxy area of the sensor if you don't get a signal, sometimes you will see an intermittant signal due to a poor connection inside the epoxy.

97 GTX Speedometer troubleshooting

there is a procedure in the seadoo service manual. if you don't have the manual you can find a free download on line. just google it
