97 xp trouble starting

I have a 1997 xp cant figure out why it wont start. got a new battery last yr replaced the computer. took assembly out of black box cleaned the grounds unclamped the wires leading to the computer and i accidently touched the sillinoid wires together and it tried to fire itself mayb bad sillinoid??? any ideas would be great!

Check the fuses for one thing. Do you get 2 beeps from the DESS,(Digitial Electronic Security System)? Be sure the battery is still good I have seen batteries go bad in a year. Have it load tested at like Auto Zone.

i did check the fuses. thet are good. and i should have been more clear sorry. i did buy a new battery today trickle charged an all. I just got done messing around with it and took a screw driver and tapped it on the two silinoid posts and it tried to start not sure what that means but least i know it turns over ! thanks for theh great ideas if u have anymore all advise would help.

but i never got the beeps. the only time ive ever heard it out of my ski was when the computer went out.

The jump across the post just by-passes the solenoid and makes the starter turn over directly. Install teh battery and give it a try and see what happens when you try to get it started. Keep up posted on you out come.
