Hey guys, new to this site just pickedup a 97 xp, guy said it needed starter selenoid,. charged battery, plug in DESS and nothing, hit start button, and starter selenoid clicks, tryied to jump across, but nothing. i cant even get beeeps outta this machine. also, when i hit the start button, the vts trim guage k"reved' like an rpm guage. i have looked through the forums and think i need to cleanup the DESS , test the post and what not, fuses. any other ideas?

Advanced diagnostics test...

You can perform the advanced diagnostic test.

With the lanyard off your machine, push the start stop button 5 times (6 if you hear nothing).

You should hear one short and one long beep. Now, put the lanyard cap back on the post. How many beeps do you hear now?

Other tests.....disconnect the battery. Take out the plugs. Remove the shaft guard on the back of the PTO hub. Grab the shaft and turn it over by hand counterclockwise, listening for any grinding noise or anything other than smooth. If it's really difficult to turn over, then pour a little (1/2 oz) oil in thru the top of the plug holes. Let it sit, then do it again.

If the shaft rotates freely, with a strong battery, try jumping across the solenoid in the electrical box. You stated above you did and got nothing. This means you probably have a bad ground connection, which would also be why you don't get beeps when you put the lanyard on......

Do not jump the ski with another vehicle that is RUNNING.....get back with us...

got it runnin!

hey guys, put a different starter in it, pulled plugs, spit out alot of water, a bit brown but not too bad, still half clear.......put plugs back in, fired right up after bout 5 seconds , idles and runs fine now, 135 psi both sides. im thinkin the water sat in there over winter, buddy says he didnt flip it before winter, but who knows, im thinkin i should do a rebuild to be safe, or leave it?!?! thanks for the info.
