I picked up a 97 SPX last week. It needs a few things - VTS was shot, PO was running nasty green oil in it, one of the rave valves is billowing smoke, and it could probably use a wear ring. It starts and runs fine, and the compression is good.

It seems to be producing an excessive amount of smoke, which I'm hoping is due to the quality of the oil. Fuel lines have been replaced, but I'm still going to pull the fuel/oil tanks for a flush and inspection, and I'll probably throw new fuel/oil lines on since I have them in the garage. Pretty much everything I ordered is in, so I'm starting with the carbs.

Here's the set that came off of the ski, and what happens to carbs that don't get painted:

Surprisingly - this set of carbs runs fine, but the ski is really clean, so I decided to treat her to a new set. I bought a set from OSDparts, and they came with an accelerator pump:

Damn those are sexy! :drool5:

All of the brackets are the same, and plumbing the pump looks straight-forward, just a "T" fitting and some primer line. Just not sure what the best way is to route the accelerator pump lines is. Can someone with a factory-installed accelerator pump post a photo or two?

For those of you that might also order a set - a few things I noticed about theses carbs:

1. They dont come with set screws for the choke plates

2. Since the output nipple on the mag carb points up at 45 degrees, it might be better to use a "T" fitting instead of the "Y" fitting that is normally used.

So wear ring, pump oil, oil/fuel tank flush, new oil/fuel lines, new VTS housing, late-style VTS boot/clamps, rave clean/rebuild, plugs... what am I forgetting to make this girl worry-free for the season?
