97 sppedster depth finder transducer location???

Hi, I followed the froum link on installing the hawkeye depth guage. I made the mistake of mounting the transducer the same as the Challenger location and it doesn't work . i know I can use petro jelly and duct tape to try different locations but I have a oil leak (dealer won't fix it) and I am working on it so tape won't hold....anyone mount the transducer in the hull so I can copy the location?? Thanks
