There is a thin aluminum plate under the gas tank right by the keel. I'm assuming that this plate is to protect the plastic gas tank. Though the plate is so thin I can't see it doing much protecting.
This large aluminum plate has a smaller 3"x4" aluminum plate riveted to it with 2 pop rivets.
This smaller plate is covering a octagon shaped hole in the larger plate.
My question is, why?
I ran across this while looking for a location for the transducer of the Hawkeye D10D depth sounder I'm installing.
I drilled out the rivets and removed this 3"x4" plate. This location looks like a good place for the transducer.
If you know what this smaller plate is for, or if I'm doing something stupid, please let me know.
Thanks.

Sorry, I meant to post this in the two-stroke boat forum. Can I move this myself or do I have to have a moderator do it?

I'm having a hard time picturing the plate in question... but I know on some of the smaller boats, there was a water switch mounted by the tank, on a small aluminum plate. It was to kick on the bilge pump. BUT... over the years, they fail, and get removed. SO... I'm thinking that's what you were looking at.

I know exactly what plate you're talking about. Although I also have no idea what it does haha
