I have a 97 GTX and want a little more performance out of it. Totally stock running about 6850 RPM on glass water. What impeller would you recomend? Also was thinking about gutting the water box by removing the exhaust baffels. Is this going to help me or hurt it? Thanks for your help
John

Switching the impeller will force you to choose between gaining out of the hole and lossing some top end speed, or gaining some top end speed and lossing a bit out of the hole.

My personal opinion is this: any money you spend trying to upgrade a ski is better spend on faster/newer ski. For the money you would have to spend to make a 97 GTX keep up with a newer/faster ski you would be better off saving the effort and buying something else....you could even get a similar year XP and you would notice a pretty big difference.

Just my opinion though....

I understand that the GTX is what it is but I just want a little bit more from what it is. Is it worth doing the exhaust as this will cost no money? Will it help at all or just a dream?

I really don't think it will help...I actually think removing the exhaust will hinder your performance. You could get a good low pitch impeller for a bigger bite and much better acceleration...this is what I would do in your case! You will lose a little top end....but who cares the accelleration is the fun part!

I also just noticed you are getting an 01 XP....once you have that, you might want to get rid of your gtx for another one of those. XPs are really fun skis!!!

I'm keeping the GTX for my fiance. I just wanna get some more punch out of it. Like you said, acceleration is the fun part. :)
