I just bought two skis. A 97 GTS and a 95 XP.
When you put the DESS key on the 97 GTS, you can hear two very faint beeps. Sounds more like two chirps. When you press the start button, nothing happens at all. I can connect the battery directly to the starter cables and the engine turns over. The two fuses on the MPEM are good and I have 12 volts on both.
Since the 95 XP does crank, I decided to swap the MPEM modules. The 97 GTS still does the same exact thing and the 95 now gives a long beep. I figured that the long beep was because it was looking for the DESS key. I moved that to the 95 and it now cranks. That is telling me the the MPEM unit from the 97 is good.
So both MPEM units will crank in the 95 and neither one will crank in the 97. I do get 12 volts to the solenoid when in the 95 but not the 97.
I'm at a loss at what to check next.
