97 gti wont reach top speed.

I have a 97 gti the problem started couple weeks ago.it wouldnt take off at all just bogged.took it to trust worthy dealer and he said they cleaned the carb and it was all gunked up guess thats what i get for not putting stabilizer in fuel.but it seemed to run good afterwards.but now it hesitates alot before it takes off and it only does 35 mph on smooth river.I swear it use to do about 48.If any one could help me or has any ideas i would gladly appreciate it.

check the fuel selector for crap in it. Replace the grey lines, and go thru carbs again, if these things mention are still/found in there...

I forgot to mention it wants to die to when its ideling sometimes it will stall sometimes not.and where is the fuel selector.
