I just picked up a 96 xp and the multifunction gauge didn't work neither did the beeper when u attach the lanyard. I think the gauge is bc it was completely filled with water qhen i took it out and opened it up. So I took out the front storage bucket and reconnected the beeper..... When I plug in the lanyard it does the double beep but then stays on. Just a constant beep until I pull off the lanyard. I'm guessing this is y the previous owner unplugged it.
Does anyone know why it is constantly staying on
Like that? Thanks!!!!

sounds like a faulty over heat sensor. unplug the sensor from the motor and then reconnect the beeper and try again. if it stops beeeeeeeeeeeeeping replace the sensor.

The heat sensor its on the top of the cylinder head. It has a brown wire coming off it. They are available at our "parts" link at the top of the page.

Thanks for the help I was able to locate it but when I unplugged it and put the lanyard on the same exact thing happened the two beeps then it stays beeping....

Under the front storage the wire goes into a main harness and when I unplug it it doesn't beep at all and I don't get power to my gauges.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks

Yea it didnt come with an owners manual.. Can anyone check for me or tell me where I can find it online?
Thanks

as already stated one long continuous beep is engine overheating, most times a faulty sensor, you removed the sensor connector and it still did the same thing? The beep should quit.....maybe a faulty brain?

Well this sucks then. So I just unplug the brown wire from the sensor. I tried doing that and it still beeped. Should I try to get a new temp sensor?

Is it a 1 long constant long beep or coninuous beeps? 1 long beep.........safty lanyard on switch more then 10 mins w/out starting.....bad connection, wrong lanyard, defective lanyard, dried salt water in cap of lanyard, improper operation of mpem or defective wiring harness......

My understanding from what I have read is that when the ski is running you have a constant beep...

this can only be one thing, the brown wire from the beeper is shorted to ground. the beeper is energized 12 volts when the ski is running and any other function to make it beep is a completed ground circuit.

It happens when I plug the lanyard on. Even if I don't start it just putting the lanyard on makes it do the constant beep.

Also it runs fine and fires right up. I had it out this weekend for about an hour and it ran amazing!!!

From what I read a beep beep beep beep beep beep and so on is an overheat, from what you are saying it just stays 1 long continuous beep. which means one of the above I already listed

i was reading through some other posts and saw something about if you were to put the wrong lanyard onto the post that it would give off a long beep....is this true or does it sound like it might be my problem...when i get home from work today im going to try and clean off the post and the lanyard and see if anything helps.

However does it at least start or nothing but the long beeeeeeep?

one long beep when you put the lanyard on means you have the wrong lanyard or the lanyard is not on properly, it will NOT start if this happens. you need 2 short beeps for the ski to start.

a continuous beep can be a few things, most common is from an overheat condition/faulty temp sender. to fully check this, unplug the brown wire and using an ohmmeter, check for continuity at the top of the sensor and ground, if it is not grounded, then it is not the problem. then check to see if the brown wire is already grounded. let us know what you find.

also, low fuel can cause a continuous beep, that's why someone told you to unplug the connector at the tank but you also need to put a jumper in as well to trick it into thinking the tank is full.

I would also unplug your faulty multi gauge, that could be the problem as well.

A bad MPEM can also be the problem.

Process of elimination but you'll get it.

No it starts just fine. And it doesn't start without the lanyard plugged in. Which is making me think that its not a wrong lanyard but had to ask bci saw someone else talking bout it.
