Guys, I am a true PWC novice who recieved a '96 XP as part of a real estate transaction.
It (hopefully) was winterized and I jsut got it running for the summer.
The battery was dead as a doornail so I installed a new batterw and fired it up.
I noticed that there is a disconnected vacuum hose that comes from under the air cleaner and I can't find a vacuum nipple with the hose missing.
Any ideas where is goes?

This same mystery hose has popped up on several posts in the past few weeks. Only thing we can think of is there must have originally been a battery vent on the stock battery, and that hose went to it.

I cut mine about 3" from inside the hull connection so it wouldn't flop around or get me confused about it again in the future.

Swap out that wear ring and take that thing out for a ride. And don't forget HOLD ON TIGHT cuz it is a quick sucker!!!:reddevil:

Wear ring fits around the impeller and keeps the clearances tight to form a strong jet pump pressure. As it wears, and it does with normal use, and quicker with sucking up sand and debris, it weakens the pressure and the ski takes off slower with slower top speeds.

Check it for .040 clearance, swap it out if it is much bigger than that, maybe .060 or .080.

When I got my hand-me-down 96 XP, it had something like .140 gap, so it was very slow out of the hole.

when I put a new ring in, it all of a sudden literally jumped OUT of the water upon full throttle. Used it over a year now off the beach (sucking up lots of sand) and still hops out of the water.
