Hey Guys,
Last year when I would take out my 96 Sea-doo XP every once in a while I would start it up and it would miss and hardly go, then I would pull the tether and try it again, same thing, pull the tether again and it would run great. Once in a while I'd be cruising along and it would die down and do it again. I just went through both jet skis carbs and changed the fuel filters and fuel lines. I also changed the spark plugs. It didn't always do this either, sometimes it would be fine other times I wouldn't be able to get it to run properly. I'm thinking this might be electrical?

Here is a link to a video from last year. I was winterizing it and it acted up then for me so I recorded it so I could show you guys.

In the video it runs bad then I pull the tether and it runs good for just a second and starts missing again...

Just your voltage regulator. Unhook the red wire and see if it clears up. Your battery will not charge with the wire unplugged though

And NEVER leave the water running with the ski off like that

And I believe I see the dreaded grey fuel lines. Change those out first, rebuild carbs and fuel selector

I changed out the grey fuel lines and changed the filter in the carb.

I'll try pulling the red wire off this weekend and see if that's my problem.

What's wrong with leaving the water hooked up without it running?

It will force water into your cylinders and flood your engine that's what. Turn ski on. Turn water on. Turn water off. Turn ski off.

All marine engines use water to cool the exhaust system. Engine exhaust pressure carries the water out. Hose pressure can force water into the engine if the engine is off. "Your gonna have a bad day.."
