96 XP Labors to turn over

I'm having some problem getting my 96 XP running after 2 years of storage. It was winterized before I stored it. When I try starting it turns over but is really labored.

So far I have a brand new battery. I had it load tested and it's fine. The connections at the battery have been cleaned and are nice and tight on the battery.
I jumped across the solenoid and I still get the same problem.
I did a compression test and both cylinders are running at 110 psi. Without the plugs in and turning the engine over with the fly wheel it smooth(no tight spots).

Only other piece to the puzzle that I can offer is that the starter sounds like it's whinning when I try starting the ski.

Any ideas on what to try next?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards

Welcome to the seadoo forum bueller. 110 psi isn't the best for compression, considering that 150 psi is ideally what you want. It sounds like it might be the starter that is bad. I would pull it and have it checked out by starter company that rebuilds them locally.

Thanks for the quick response.

I'll pull it out this weekend and find someone to check it out. Do you know if it's just 2 bolts to remove the starter.?

Jeff, on a 96 XP....I believe so..give it a good look over to be sure. Use a mirror to be sure they are all out then it should just slide out.

Update:

Removed starter and had it checked at a local starter repair shop. Brushes were practically gone so I had it rebuilt. Will install this weekend. Between the rebuilt starter and sanding all of my cable connectors, hopefully she'll start.

Will post results.

Just finished installing the rebuilt starter. All connectors were sanded for a nice contact point. Started right up. Last time my xp was run was about 3-4 years ago, always winterized though. Hopefully someone with the same symptoms will find this use full.
