My 96 XP exhibits a problem after sitting in the water for a period of time. When you first restart the jetski it will start stuttering like it is misfiring. You can turn the jetski off and then back on and for a second it will come back to life like normal, but then starts bogging again. After a few minutes of doing this it goes back to normal and the problem won't show up again until you turn the jetski off for a while. This problem only used to happen once a day if they were sitting in the water, but now it is happening if it is idle for an hour in the water. What could be the cause of this? It seems like something might be getting moist that shouldn't.

Thanks.

Thanks for the respone, but if it is the carbs why would it clear up after a few minutes of running?

I did just clean the carbs but haven't had time to get all of the grey fuel line replaced. I ran out of time before the 4th of July. Guess I'll replace the lines and clean it one more time to see if it fixes the problem. At least it is a cheap and easy to do.

Probably, your needles ar stick'n, inside carbs. Then at fire up, it sputters, til you burned the "excessive" gas, then off she goes.

I finally got around to replacing all of the fuel line and I am taking it out this weekend to see how it runs. I can say the old fuel lines had plenty of green gunk on them. I didn't have time to pull the carbs back off to clean them, but I threw in a can of seafoam in with the gas to see if it will help.

I do want to say that replacing the fuel lines was a breeze, and couldn't have taken me an hour if that. I didn't have to remove anything to do it either. I am going to replace the ones on my 97 next week.

did you ever get the problem resolved? I have the same problem with my ski.
I just rebuilt carbs, replaced fuel lines and rebuilt RAVE assembly.

carbs

Hi. I've had same problem with my xp. I've cleaned carbs etc. Took flywheel off. Checked coil and run out all ideas what to do next. After that I took my pw to the garage and they told me £990 for repair!!!!. My last hance was to give a propper clean for carbs. Stripped them down, removed every single jet spring washer etc. Put them back together and that's it. Alive!!! I know i'ts not easy job job todo and ou have to be vety carefuul but it's worth doing. Good Luck!!!

I haven't had time to finish it. I replaced all of the fuel line which I thought was really easy. After that I put in a seafoam and ran them for a couple of hours. At the very end the carb appeared to plug up, and I haven't had time to take it off to clean it. I plan on doing that this week, and hope to take them out on Thursday. I'll post back once I know if it is working.
