My 96 gtx has had intermitant running problems for a while now. I just took it to a dealer who informed me the crankshaft seal bearings were shot. The price to fix it aprox. $2500.00. Is this a common problem? Is this a normal price for this kind of job? Should I do anything else while I have it apart? Your responses are GREATLY appreciated!

Zebco....

Sounds like he has a Zebco reel and is ready to set the hook!.......are you ready to give him your wallet?.........

Stay away from that shop!....he sounds like he's ready to rip you off. You can buy that engine for $780 bucks. Newly remanufactured!......all you do is pull yours out, take off the sub-systems like the magneto, carbs, exhaust manifold, rotary valve ....and put it on your new engine and slap that baby in there.

Then, you box up your old motor and send it back to them. The motor weighs about 75 pounds, stipped down. Some refer to this as a long block.
