I need to know witch way does the hole in the piston face on my 787 engine the shop manual is unclear do they face the intake/rotary valve or oppisite the rotary valve

Piston position?

When assembling a new piston in the 787, you should see the letters AUS over an arrow on top of the piston. The arrow and letters should be facing the exhaust/intake port of the engine. .......

The pistons I have are aftermarket I have the chilton manual and have read the paragraph that singles out the 787 engine from all the others. I do not have the origional pistons marked aus. the arrow is on the opposite side of the hole on my pistons if that is the case it appears the hole in the piston faces away from the rotary valve I want to get this right that is why I asked the relation of the hole to the rotary valve when I got this engine it was apart so I have no clue. thank you for responding to my post by the way I'm a G.M. mastertech if you have any car questions ask away I,m new to this rotax motor but very good at cars and light trucks any gm brand.

Hole.....

Tell me more about the "hole" in the piston. Maybe that might give me some idea as to what it's for. I don't recollect any piston having a hole in it, unless your talking about an indention. If you have an arrow, I think it would be safe to say, that the arrow is pointed toward the exhaust/inlet ports of the engine.

It's good to see another mechanic in the forum. At one time in my life, I built high performance 350, 383 and 400 cu.in motors. All small block. Made some pretty hefty horsepower out of the 383. I put it in my 1968 Camaro Convertible. Man, was that a babe magnet or what?....

But, I'm old and married with children, so I don't have to worry about sporty cars anymore. I own a station wagon....

1.8.4.3.6.5.7.2......I'm sure you know what that means!......
