I put a new battery in my 96 Gsx for the new season. It wasn't an exact replacement, but was in the same battery group (16). The old battery had 275 cc amps, I'm not sure what the new battery is, but it does read 12-14 volts consistently.
My problem is that the starter doesn't want to turn over the engine with the spark plugs in. When I take the plugs out, it turns over just fine. There isn't any water in the engine and both cylinders have good compression.
Could the problem be that the battery doesn't have enough amps to turn the engine over when there is compession in the cylinder chambers? Any advice would be appreciated.

thats it stud, or your red cables and ground cable needs replaced or cleaned atterminals, but 225cca, seems WAY LOW.

I tried a different battery from another gsx that is working and it does the same thing, so it doesn't appear to be a battery issue.

check your connections, mainly your starter hot and block/starter ground/ main ground corrosion will cause a loss of power to the starter.....also connections in the relay box need to be checked, after all connections are checked to be good, you can have a stater that will turn but is not strong enough anymore to turn over the motor......I would just start with all the connections first.....corrosion causes elevated contact points which in turn increases resistance and ruduces power to the contact point.
