i have to pump the primer knob a couple of times and then it fires right up, goes to around 3-4000 rpm then dies out

So, in place of the choke cable, is a primer kit? think you need to go thru the carbs, if it fires up, then dies. Carbs aint pull'n fuel thru lines..

i just looked at the ski, it does have a small fuel line that seems to run from the primer pull knob, when i pump it i can see fuel moving, i'll try to look at the carb thanks

Um.....if there is not an aftermarket primer installed then you are doing it the wrong way. If there is indeed a primer then you'll need to look into rebuilding your carbs.

I'm going to assume you actually have a choke and not a primer and if I am correct, this is what you need to do in order to properly start your 2 stroke motor: Pull the choke knob out completely and apply full throttle and then hit the start button until it fires. Then release the choke and close the throttle some so it doesn't rev thru the roof.

Applying the choke merely increases the suction effect on the fuel circuitry to get the fuel flowing quicker. Opening the throttle at the same time increases this suction even more since the throttle plate is not posing a restriction. Don't feather the throttle or choke. Full choke and full throttle at the same time and you will see how much easier your motor fires up. After it is warmed up you should not have to apply the choke to fire it up unless there are issues internally on your carbs.

Hope this resolves your starting issue. Let us know.

Ok, I see you do indeed have a primer. Either you have an internal issue on the carbs or fuel is just not getting thru the fuel lines yet. Remove the airbox cover and take a plastic bag, lay the bag flat against the flame arrestor and try to start it. You will see the motor trying to suck the bag into the flame arrestor as it essentially chokes the carbs. This should get the fuel moving as it should. If your ski still does not want to run after trying this then you need to go further and possibly into the carbs.

i put a bag over the flame arrestor and pilled primer knob out & held throttle all the way. could not get it to start, it suck the bag tight but would not start
took the bag off it started rev'd up to 3-4000 rpm's then died a second later

If your ski has grey fuel lines, chances are the internal fuel filters and possibly your fuel valve are dirty. Sounds as though some fuel is getting to the carbs, just not enough. Most likely a carb rebuild, new fuel lines and a new or cleaned fuel selector are in order. Fairly straight forward job, there is lots of help here and on other PWC sites. Good luck.

hey its running thats the good news, bad news keep it simple. i had a blown fuse previous to this problem. while checking for it i had cut the fuel off. didn't bother to check it again. it is idleing a little high will try to adjust
thanks again for your help, it does have the grey fuel lines which i will replace later today once again thanks for the help
