I’ve been looking into an issue with my trim mechanism. When I pull the controls it looks as though the black plastic parts slide in the groves of the aluminum bracket and the trim control does not work. Between full forward and full back I probably only get a quarter inch of movement on the trim of the jet port. I’m sure the previous owner replaced the cable and did not assemble the mechanism properly. Please look at the few pictures I’ve posted. Can someone provide detail on how to properly assemble the trim control?

I’ve been experimenting with this and I have a solution that works but I would prefer to compare against an OEM assembly if possible. The parts diagram does not offer enough detail.

Thanks!

I've got a 1996 Challenger, and the trim has a barely
noticeable effect. A quarter-inch of movement sounds
about right. Have you downloaded the shop manual?

That’s very strange, The cable has a good few inches of throw, but does almost nothing with the jetport. I’m wondering if the things were assembled wrong at the factory or if the trim cable was replaced but was not reinstalled properly. I can’t understand how the trim only has this little movement.

Also I can’t find the shop manual anywhere. I can find the parts diagrams but that doesn’t really help.

If it’s not too much trouble, and you have a few minutes, would you mind taking a couple pictures of the trim side of the assembly the way the cable routes and what not? If not no worries, I’m still scouring the Internet for anything usable.

Yeah, you really need a manual for working on the control assembly--the
trim, throttle and "transmission" levers.

Make sure you're looking at
the right bits--I recall the throttle interacts with the F-N-R lever, where
if you move it from neutral, it drops the throttle down to idle position
(or prevents you from moving out of neutral. Been ten years or so since
I worked on mine). That's what I'd associate the weird sliding plate assy
with, that you posted pics of.

I'll try and get some shots of the terminal linkage today. PM me with
you location, if you're in Georgia/Florida area.

Well, that came out a bit...different.

There are three pics--trim up, center, and down.

Bucket is in full "Reverse" position in all three pics; note trailing edge
of cone, relative to top edge of bucket, to see travel.
