While riding our xp, it first lost power & wouldn't go faster than idle. If you added throttle it would die - but it would re-start & run at idle. Now it will not start & backfires thru carbs and sometimes thru exhaust.

I have:
replaced plugs
checked for water in gas
replaced fuel filter
put new fuel strait to carbs (with hose and funnel) to bypass fuel valve & hoses. It did not seem to draw any fuel from funnel while cranking.

Is there some sort of fuel pump or somthing to feed gas to the carbs?
Should I have the carbs rebuilt?

Any help would be great!

Thanks,
Scott

pull the carbs, and b-4 you start disassemble'n them, turn the pto, and look into the intake manifold to verify that the RV plate is turning. If not, then the brass gear is stripped...

Thanks, will do first. What is involved changing the brass gear?

Looking at parts breakdown, is it the rotary valve shaft or the 14 tooth sprocket that gets stripped?

Thanks.

the brass gear that goes, It acts as the "breaking" point, so nuth'n else fails, but you'll need to "investigate" why it went.
