I tried to post a link, but the forum blocked it. You can sign up for premium membership, and get manuals/wiring diagrams here (other benefits as well) or do a google search and get them for free.

Thats pretty sweet. Never have I ever seen a factory DESS on a 95. I guess the rumors I had heard of them existing are true!

okay, so i took out the MSD today i don't think there was a change. i disconnected the temp sensor and the constant beep stopped so it sounds like that is shorting. when i press start the 5 times to go to advanced diagnostics i get a short then a longer beep. what does this mean?

So does it try to crank over when you hit start/stop button?

If no, and you get the one short and one long beep send it to minnetonka4me for testing and be done with it.
No sense chasing tail over bad key.

You could also try jumping solenoid to see if it turns engine over.
If it does, then solenoid is bad.
But that assumes key is good.

yeah when i press the button nothing happens, no crank. it makes sense that it is the key because that is what the previous owner said. he just didn't seem to know much about it and i would have liked for it have been something trivial like a fuse. it does turn over when i jump the solenoid.

sounds like i will be sending it to Minnetonka4me

Well the long and short beep is a good thing. It means the mpem is fine and power is getting to it. So you are saying you have a key and it doesnt do anything when you put it on the post?

If thats the case its most likely the post. The problem is you will need to post a picture of the connector on the end of the DESS post so I can send you the right one.

You also need a temp sensor...I got them cheap too.

You can send the MPEM, post , and key if you want so we get it right the first time....but I am fairly sure you need a post.

what is the best way to go about testing the post? i know it has something to do with resistance but what should i look for?

Update

i was able to test continuity and resistance from the the post wires they all seem to check out with no resistance and no shorts. i ran a magnet over the post and pressed the start/stop button and it gave one short bee, which i assume means wrong key? which would obviously make sense since a magnet is not a key. so i'm assuming i would just need a new key/programming?

Ship your stuff to Tonka, he'll have you sorted out in a day. If you would have shipped it to him on the 12th you'd probably be getting it back on Saturday.

Minnetonka4me i tried to send you a PM but I don't know if it went through. Anyway, i pulled the mpem today, how much would a reprogramming with a new key, a temp sensor and a set of handlebar grips be.
